Need help looking for a new printer... Follow

#1 Aug 22 2011 at 3:11 PM Rating: Good
Hello all, I have been looking for a GOOD (or GREAT :D ) printer that will print photos, box art, papercraft models and do normal every day printing.

I have looked into laser printers and have decided that the cost of toner might be out of my budget, so I am looking for something that will print VERY well without costing me a lot every time I need to replace ink.

I am also wanting to be able to print on shiny metallic gold and silver paper (the kind you might see around the holidays), so I'll need something that will be able to print on that type of paper without smearing the ink (or I can at least let the ink dry.

Being a wireless (Airprint) printer is a HUGE plus considering I have two laptops, a desktop, an iPad 2, a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tablet, a couple of iTouchs,, and one iPhone 4.

I want to be able to print crisp and retail-like game covers too.

My cost range would be around $50-$250 (for a REALLY good one).

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Pent

I can't help you pick a printer because the one I am using won't do card stock or foil printing. It is an old Samsung laser printer. I know you said replacing the toner cartridge is out of your price range. You may want to reconsider. I have used the same toner cartridge for 5 years. My wife teaches and is constantly printing stuff for her students on it. Replacement cartridge is $50 and I still have one in the box next to it.

Is it monochrome? Or color? I was looking for a color printer.

I think I have decided on an Epson Workforce 840. It should fit my needs nicely. It's an inkjet, but the ink dries extremely fast, and there are way too many other bells and whistles on it to not get it.

That is a snappy looking printer.
May have to get one of them too.

Just lettng you know that many places sell it for $299, but Amazon has it for $189 or so...

Also... two-sided printing.. and "airprinting" [wireless] (printing from laptops, iTouchs, and iPads) are two major pluses.

Epsons a good way to go, Might want to look at an Epson Stylus Photo 1400 if you want a bit higher end graphics (and CD printing too!) and don't care as much about the scanner capacity, though the 1400 doesn't have direct wireless.

I have an Epson Stylus NX420, it's pretty awesome IMO. And replacement ink is pretty cheap.
