wierd cpu usageFollow

ok was just on XIV a bit ago and was fine the whole day till recently my cpu started to go up to 60% randomly and go back down causing lag in the game but when i go to the processes it doesnt show what is causing it.
my specs are
i7 950 3.2 ghz
6gb DDR3 triple channel ram
465 gtx
asus sabertooth motherboard
windows 7 home prem

temps are fine never go above 55c and it has never happened before tonight so i dont know what it is. using core temp.

Are you in windows mode? If so keep a copy of task manager up at all times. Sort by CPU usage. Make sure to show all users/all processes. In windows 7 by default it only shows what your user name has open. System tasks are not show until you select all users even if only one account exists on the machine.

It could be almost anything. Virus or background tasks would be my first guess. It is also possible that it is FFXIV loading something up.

its only in XIV that this happens and i didnt see anything in the task manager

Given that its Windows 7, there are a couple things it could be. Usually they are related to the system policy cache permissions. Need to know if there are any errors in application or system in Event Viewer (under control panel Administrative tools)

It could also be video card in need of updates, overzealous antivirus programs not set to ignore ffxiv, Vmware security permissions for vmware client if that happens to be installed on your machine, or a handful of other things.
