eq disconnect at charactor selectFollow

Kao help please?

New g73sw and eq gets to charactor select screen for a couple seconds...then with the message "you have been disconnected"
it sends me to server select.

Hmm, that should be more than enough hardware for Eq1. Is there anything going on in event log? Have you tried disabling UAC entirely and running EQ as administrator? Also, is your antivirus / firewall blocking it by any chance?

If that doesn't do the trick, check drivers, check windows update, maybe delete the directory and repatch EQ?

I was going to suggest a software firewall causing this issue. I seem to remember this happening to me when I used to play EQ. It would only happen after every patch since EQ had changed since last used.

Well, it was a new patcher that came out in December, all working good with the new laptop. Funny though I never downloaded the new patcher on the old box.
