Rift Load Screen 95% Network Port ErrorFollow

#1 Feb 14 2011 at 7:02 PM Rating: Decent
The below is what I submitted to the Rift support but I would like to see what others think.
I came here since for some reason I cannot post on the official forums (despite doing so last week)

One of my guildmates is able to get through to the realm selection screen so I deduced that this must be an issue that will stop me playing in the beta...

Have done some research and not been able to find a duplicate issue anywhere.

At Loading screen following opening cinematic, and before realm/character selection.

Load to 89% > 2-3 minute of no action, then the Load moves to 93/94/95% (over many attempts, usually 94%) & Error:

Failed to connect to server. Network ports 6000-6020 appear to be blocked. Please contact customer service.

I attempted to screenshot this but whenever I attempted to paste it into a document, the loading screen came out as just blank dark grey background colour.

This does not freeze my computer, I can click OK and it closes Rift, I can then load and try again.

For unknown reason, clicking after 89% causes the error and jump to ~94% to happen instantly. This occurred a few times consecutively and then went back to being delayed.

Note that I play on a university internet connection, so (dont know much about them but it is reliable) I do not think I have any control over network ports.

I attempted to run with my firewall switched off to no effect.

Text in top left corner:

Connecting to character selection server' becomes 'Requested select authentication' when the error appears

Interestingly, when played in windowed mode, I found that 'Connecting to character selection server' becomes 'Sent protocol version' instead of 'Request select Authentication'

Some of this information is likely unecessary but I hope this helps you to resolve any issues or point me in the direction if it is (most likely) at my end.

Note I am able to run Word of Warcraft perfectly on this Laptop. (I have not been able to test it on any other system to confirm it is not to do with the connection)

Thank you!

You guys do know it doesn't start until 10am pst on the 15th.

Now that the servers are online head over to the beta board and look at the first sticky post for information. If you are on BT it looks like you may be SOL for awhile.
