Need help with Macbook Pro, BootcampFollow

#1 Jan 17 2011 at 10:59 AM Rating: Decent
Hello,

So I've been looking around to see if theres a way to make this work. I want to install FFXIV on my Mac in Bootcamp, but I wanted to know if it would work well with this hardware.
I know what the requirements are, but will it run well?

Note: I'm not very computer savvy, so let me know if theres anything else that might be necessary to know.
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 2.8 GHz, 4 GB Memory, 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
Bootcamp OS: Windows XP, SP3

Would it work better in Parallels? Has anyone gotten this to work? What problems have people encountered?

I would think that video card would be holding things back, but I'm no expert on the subject.

It will definitely work better on Bootcamp than in Parallels. Since Parallels has to run inside OSX, it's not going to have the same amount of dedicated RAM that a Bootcamp partition would have. Bootcamp is going to use all your hardware (and you're going to need it since you're on a laptop) whereas Parallels is pretty limited.

Bootcamp set up is pretty easy actually. Once you have the Windows OS disk, you just run the Boot Camp Assistant. The Assistant takes care of the all difficult work for you - all you have to do is pick the hard drive size. After the HD has been formatted and all that, it's just a regular Windows install from there.
