GPU Temps and Fan SpeedsFollow

I did a mobo/cpu upgrade last night and was monitoring my system temps using Speedfan and RivaTuner and noticed my GPU core temp would get into the mid 70s during graphically intensive gaming. I wasn't sure if that was too high or not, but I was wondering if using riva tuner to force the fan to 60% (rather than 40%) would harm the fan at all in the long run.

Or is the temp fine and I should just ignore it unless I start getting crashes or something?

It's a XFX GTX 260 card and if the fan goes the whole thing goes, as far as i can tell.

ETA: Might have found the problem, It was while playing borderlands, and it's notorious for causing high GPU temps.

Uptate and a bump

Is there a way to tweak the fan settings using nVidia software, like the nvidia control panel? Id like to change the threshold for the fan to increase speed, but not have to do it every time i run certain applications.

Download and install the nVidia nTune software. From there you will be able to change all kinds of settings on your video card.
