WoW: Game crashing + other issuesFollow

First problem:

I've been playing since more or less mid summer, but ever since 4.0.1 (I don't know if this is the cause, or just a coincidence in timing) the game has randomly been crashing for me, saying "Not enough storage space to process this command". I have no idea how it is caused, nor do I know how to fix it. The only upgrade I have done to my PC since playing was upgrade RAM from 4 gigs to 8. It seems to happen completely at random, sometimes an hour after I've started, and sometimes it doesn't happen for days on end. Here's a pic of the dialogue box that pops up:

Second problem:

This one is a little harder to describe. Sometimes while running an application (can be anything; firefox, WoW, FFXI, FFXIV, etc) the window will suddenly gray out a bit, as if I had clicked to something else and it were now running in the background. All commands will be completely unresponsive until I click on the window again, though sometimes it'll come back all on it's own. At first it was a slight annoyance, but I'm tired of putting up with it and want a way to stop it.

Here are my PC specs:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
AMD Phenom II X4 925
8.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 669MHz (9-9-9-24)
ATI Radeon HD 5600 Series

For the RAM it should be noted that 2 are DDR3 1600G and 2 are DDR3 2000G. When I ordered them they said that they were compatible and that everything would run as if it were the slowest type. I can't help but think that this could be part of the issue though, since everything started shortly after I installed them.

If anyone knows a lot about this kind of stuff and could help I'd greatly appreciate it. If any other info is needed just ask and I'll get it.

I guess my first question would be How much free hard drive space do you currently have? I'f you are below a gig or so on any of your operating system or game install partitions you might be filling it with temporary data to the point that it crashes. With the size of hard drives these days admittedly thats not likely unless you are on a SSD.

Regarding the ram, assuming you have them seperated by channel so that you have 2 matched sticks in slots a0 and a1, and two matched sticks in B0 and B1, however those are actually laid out on your board, it shouldn't be a problem. Depending on your motherboard manufacturer and bios level, you can tend to experiance compatability issues sometimes with that configuration since even though it clocks the faster sticks back to match the slower, the latancies don't always exactly match. If you are having issues, try a bios update first, and if that doesn't do the trick, consider swapping the other two sticks for something identical to the faster ones.

The grey out effect could be a remnant of UAC somehow still active. Did you disable it in an odd way other than going to users and just dragging the UAC slider down to off? Only other time you should see that with UAC enabled would be when you enter task manager. I suppose that could be a symptom of some sort of virus, but if you have decent protection and are patched thats unlikely. May want to run a malwarebytes scan anyways just in case. Also check your event log to see if there are any computer errors that correspond to the times you are seeing that effect. Its under Control panel, administrative tools. You want the system and application logs.

I suppose video card overheating could also produce that effect, but again, that would be unlikely. You might also want to see if there is an updated driver for the video card.

The only partitions on it are the default ones that came with it, and the one WoW is installed in says it has a good 365gb free still.

On my PC the 4 slots are marked (in order) DIMM_A2, DIMM_B2, DIMM_A1, DIMM_B1. When it arrived the two 1600 sticks it had were both in the A2/B2 slots, right next to each other. When I got the 2000 sticks I stuck them in the A1/B1 slots. Is this wrong, and all I need to do is swap two of them? I also have an extra stick available in case one of them could just be defective.

I disabled UAC a long long time ago, in just the manner you mentioned. I'll turn it back on for a bit, then turn it all off to make sure I didn't do something wrong and it's all been done right. I've also run several malware/virus programs, each turning up nothing. All drivers are also up to date, and the problem was around a bit before I updated video card drivers.

As for events logs, I know how to get to them, but not quite sure what I'm looking for once I get there Smiley: frown

Just an update: while looking on some other sites it seems that the "not enough memory" issue is pretty common among a lot of people after these last few patches. It's likely a broken addon, though nobody has been able to find out which one or why yet.

reminds me of something we used to see crop up with fileshares on the old NT/2000 setups. Something about IRPStack size or something if I remember right (not enough resources to open anymore fileshares and such).

Might be worth checking the drivers tab for you NIC--if they recently got updated (via Micro$oft's monthly updates for November) try rolling it back. Or maybe try updating the driver if it's kinda old.

If you are away from your computer for a decent amount of time(i.e. at work) then you may want to run a memory test while you are away. I personally use memtest. RAM faults can crop up in the most obscene error codes.

Also, if it isn't the RAM try running a disc scan(windows built in should be fine) and check if it comes bck with any errors.

I have had both of these issues in the past, and the errors they cause are very random...
