Since you're using Windows 7 try turning off your UAC dimming the desktop when it pops up, if this solves the problem then it could very likely be a problem with either Direct X being damaged somehow or your video card is caput. If not try reinstalling windows, it can solve a lot of problems if you do it properly and install your drivers. If neither works then we could explore other posibilities or someone else might suggest something else to try.

Kernal power event 41 is windows 7's generic "something crashed in memory and we don't have a frigging clue why" error message. It can be caused by several things.

1. a bad ram module
2. out of date motherboard bios and or speedstep / c-state enabled on bios
3. bad or outdated driver software

I'd burn a memtest test cd and check your memory, or use the built in windows 7 memory checker on reboot if you know where that is. If the memory checks out, update the bios if there is an update available, if not, try disabling speedstep or c-state for now. if that doesn't fix it, update the drivers starting with the system drivers and working out (chipset, mass storage, then sound, then video, then nic, etc.)
