Your hardware looks like it should be up to the task, Good processor, plenty of video horsepower, lots of drive space and ram. Since it is crashing immidiatly, i'm going to guess most likely software or driver related. There is a chance you have a bad component that is only kicking in when your computer tries to enter 3d, but that isn't as likely as a software issue.

To start, lets get some diagnostics and updates out of the way. If you haven't already, download all the available updates from windows update, and grab all the required updates that the Secunia PSI program finds. http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/ (thats a good one to keep even after you get your game working by the way)

Next, we want to update your drivers. If you know the make and model of your machine and where you got it from, go to their driver website and download the latest video card driver, network card driver, and realtek audio driver. If this was a build it yourself machine, try the motherboard manufacturer for most of that, and ATI/AMD diretly for the video card driver.

After that, go to the start menu and type in: dxdiag
and hit enter. That should launch the DirectX diagnostics console. check for any errors in the notes fields.

If that looks clean, try fireing up the game. if that works, you are done. If it doesn't, or if you see directX errors come back and let us know and we'll go to more in depth testing.

hey thanks for all the tips i updated my video card driver and got the game fired up.. I think my video card is not that good i have to run the game at lowest settings otherwise it runs very bad so i think i just need new video card.. its only a 60$ card so my gess is that this is causing the problem.

thanks alot for the help.

Well, I can tell you why it is crashing, but you wont like the answer. That laptop has one of those annoying Intel video cards in it, and will not run FFXIV. You would need a better video card to make it work. which since it is a laptop means new laptop.

Sorry.

It sounds like im having the same issue w/ my ati 5650 graphics card as other ppl, whenever i try to run ffxiv a pop up window comes up saying ffxiv has stoped working. I downloaded the 10.8 version driver but when i check the system specs via ffxivconfig it still says 8.14 version and still wont run the game. Is there anything else i need to do? Ive been at this for over a day. thanks.

did you uninstall/clean the old drivers before installing the new ones? Just applying newer drivers over older ones has been known to cause issues in both the Nvidia and ATI camps.

i just downloaded and installed the ati 10.9 driver version, i see it on my c drive but when i look at the specs on my driver in the catalyst control center it still says 8.14, how do i uninstall and clean up old versions so the new version will go into effect?

There are several different versions registered witin the driver package--each component( 2d, 3d, control panel, and package) may have entirely different version numbers. You may be looking at the wrong version number. For instance, here's the details on this old laptop:
Catalyst version 6.5, package version 8.252..., 2D driver version 6.14.

They've streamlined it now, but you used to have to manually uninstall the drivers and run a third-party file/registry cleaner (many still use them for good measure, but the new Express Uninstall feature is supposed to do it all now). Basically, go to add/remove programs utility and uninstall the ATI software, reboot (cancil the prompt to install new drivers) and then run the new driver installation package.

Here's a link to the ATI page for finding drivers with tutorial videos for everything:

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

If your flash player isn't cooperating with the videos, here's a write up I found when I googled it:

Fromt he Dell 1545 specs page:

Integrated Intel® X4500HD Graphics Media Accelerator

Doesn't meet the minimum requirements for FFXIV.

Have you tried the steps here for your update issue? (basically, delete your downloads folder to force it to redownload the updates).

As for a PC to play...that's rather open ended. My suggestion is, if you're going to be playing PC games, build a desktop. You'll get more for your money, and you can more easily upgrade it down the road if you want/need to. You could look at budge build suggestions such as this for a baseline for building (keeping in mind that that one has nearly $200 set for a monitor and speakers, albeit no budget for an OS.

Alternatively, configure an XPS 7100 base model ($499 one) with a HD5770 (adds $180...or buy one yourself and install it for a little less) for a similar end result, albeit with a smaller HDD and less RAM.

8007002 is a kind of generic error. It has a problem with the extracted files when it is trying to install the update--missing/corrupt files...Windows is just having a brain cramp. The usual fix is to delete the download and try to re-download it, or manually get the update. Here's the MS generic article about it:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=910336

Sometimes it's just easier to go to the Microsoft Download Center and manaully download/install it. This happens a lot with .Net updates. Sometimes you are better off if you see those come up to just leave WinUpdate and get those manually from the downloads site and install them seperately, rebooting, then running Windows Update.

Make a note of what update is failing and then search for it. If you do end up installing it manually, might be worth it to go ahead and follow the MS instructions for manually removing the downloaded Winupdate files anyway, just to clean things up and hopefully prevent it from tripping up the automated process again later.

As for getting a PC to run FFXIV--there is a TON of hardware out there that can run it.
I've seen a lot of people running it on dual/quad core systems with Nvidia 260's and ATI 4870's. Seems to be a decent entry/midrange rig for those on a budget.

Pick a company you like, a price range you like, then make sure the models that interest you have the hardware that meets the requirements. Dell has gotten popular because of their site design--start with a base model and then tweak all the stuff on it. IBM's Lenovo systems are catching hold too with a similar process, but you have to watch them closely (they like to stick cheap CPU's or cheap Video options in them to start with). You want to get as many cores on the CPU as you can. TRUE Dual cores have enough horsepower, but you'll get a lot more out of a Quad Core or better CPU if you can afford it. DO NOT go with anything that has Intel Graphics--go with an ATI or nVidia solution--preferably one with an actual drop-in card.

You don't HAVE to have a powerhouse unless you really must have the highest resolution and all the bells and whistles. My old E8400 3GHz Core2Duo with 4GB PC1100 DDR2 RAM and an ATI 4850 512MB played the beta just fine on XP at 720p on a 23" LCD with all the standard graphics settings. It benched just a little above the mark that recommended lowering details at 1080p, so I didn't pull it up--it was plenty enough eye candy for me even at only 720p. If you are going with a laptop or PC with integrated graphics (on the motherboard) check the list here:

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Graphics-Media-Accelerator-GMA-4500M.20379.0.html
(there's a column near the middle of the page with cards broken down by Class 1, Class 2...)

If you see it listed, read the details on it. They should tell you what the comparable PC GPU core it is built off of, which is what you need to compare to the minimum requirements list. If you don't see it listed there, just google the specs for it and you should be able to get the info on it. For example, FF14 calls for at least a 2900 model from ATI. The ATI 3200 Graphics solution for laptops/PC motherboards is actually built around the 2400 GPU core, and is not compatible with FF14.

With all the varying versions of cards out there, it can get a bit intimidating. Each group of cards may have 5 different versions. Basically the first 2 digits represent the different core groupings, with the rest denoting the enthusiast options--basically the higher the second half, the more enthusiast features are added. Luckily, there is a site that can give you some side-by-side comparison of the specs of many common cards:

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=632&card2=614

It should be noted that the quality of memory used has a MAJOR impact on FF14. This applies to both the video card and system memory. High fill rate is a MUST for this game. When you can choose, go for wider bandwidth (256bit over 128bit) and/or faster clocks (DDR5 > DDR3 > DDR2 and/or PC-1333 > PC-1066, etc.) where you can.

I am having the same issues with getting ff14 to start. i uninstalled my new graphics card and reinstalled with latest driver. i played it the first night after installing it and work perfectly but after i logged in today got the update it won't work. But the Benchmark works just fine.

windows vista service pack 2.
Intel(R) core (tm)2 quad core Q6700 @ 2.66 GHz (4CPU's)
ATI Radeon HD 5700 series (just bought 3 Oct 10)

My score from benchmark 3510 with load time of 29421ms.

my old score with my old gforce card was 500 so i know i didn't mess anything up but just get lost in the language would appreciate any help thank you.

I'm having no luck either... Sometimes the game will crash immediately, and at other times the game will run fine for anything from 10 minutes up to almost an hour and then the same crash kicks in. I haven't spotted any consistencies between the crashes, they all seem random! I've only had the directx crash once or twice, and the error I always get is Windows detecting a problem and closing the program down. I've had this PC only just over a week now. I've been meaning to get a new one for a while and final fantasy 14 was the push I needed to spend the cash, but now it's the only thing that I can't use :(

My PC specs are -
-Windows 7 Ultimate
-ACPI x64 bit based PC
-NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX
-4 GB RAM (3.87GB Usable)
-4 x Intel Core i3 CPU 530 @ 2.93ghz
-Realtek High Definition Audio
-1TB Hard Drive

I've read through the posts below and tried the following...

-Updated my NVIDIA driver
-Checked and tried to update my Gigabyte motherboard driver (already up to date)
-Downloaded and used Secunia PSI (Couldn't detect any issues)
-Used the DirectX Diagnostic Console (Couldn't detect any issues)
-Re-installed the game (twice!)
-Tried a variety of graphics settings in ff14 config (lower settings do not seem to help)

I tried the benchmark and got a reasonable enough score (over 3000). If I wasn't already bald I would have pulled all of my hair out by now trying to resolve this issue lol. If anyone can help then I would be really grateful!

just seeing if anyone can tell me if these specs are good enough to play ff14. ive updated all my drivers and windows updates. tried all the solutions that the square support page suggested still with no luck. any help would be much appreciated.
