Failed Graphics Card.Follow

I'm pretty sure I have a bad graphics card. Monitor display froze, Blue screen of death saying NV4_Disp driver had been caught in an infinite loop, won't reboot completely without freezing, removed one of the cards, everything powers up fine.

Now I just need to know, if I want to set up two geforce cards in SLI, do they need to be the same model? If I have two 8800GTs, and one failed, does it need to be paired with another 8800? Or can I use a newer card?

SLI will theoretically work in Asynchronious mode, but it doesn't work well, and I don't reccomend it. Realsitically you can get something like a 260 GTX that will be 3-4 times faster than a pair of 8800 GT's would be for just a bit more than the cost of another 8800 GT. Depending on who you got your card from, it may still be under warranty too.

I think I'm going to stick with the single 8800GT until I find out which one I want to buy, and which ones I can fit into my computer.

The warranty is expired (ended about 5 months ago). I'll just have to decide what graphics card I want to upgrade to, and in the mean time just use the one. I've been thinking about an upgrade, and this might be the push to finally do it.

So, I'm trying to think about what card(s) to get, but my computer is still running the 32bit Windows XP Pro. So If I go overboard on the video card I'll run out of system ram Smiley: frown

Right now it was 1GB Total video ram, and 3GB of system ram. Would it be bad to go 2GB and 2GB? Would losing that system ram lower system performance?

Cook the busted video card @the solder reworking temp. See if your problem is microfracturing. If so this should fix it. Use ventilation.

I know this is a bit late but the same thing happened to my Dell XPS M 1710 Laptop(infinite loop message). It was as a result of heat damage from long hours. When I troubleshooted the system I realized that their was also damage to the chip on the motherboard so I ditched it (when faced with the high cost of replacement components). A Laptop/notebook cooler solved my problems on my subsequent laptops.
