I want a new 'puter.Follow

#1 Sep 19 2010 at 8:46 AM Rating: Good
So I want a new computer. The desktop I am on is pretty old (Like 2004 old), and I'm limited to what I can do on it (under 115 GB HD [via Master and Slave HDs), under 1GB of RAM).
I think it is time to look towards getting something a bit newer :D

I'd like to stay under $1k (or maybe 1.5). I'd like to go with a Laptop, but it doesn't really matter (I'd just like to be able to move around XD).

I only need the comp to do a few things: Hold all my Music, surf the web, and play a few games.

I currently only play WoW and older comp games, as this desktop I'm on is just that bad :3
I bought spore 2 years ago when it came out, and had to buy a low end video card as an upgrade just to play it..with the setting on low.

The new HP Envy 14 has caught my eye on the laptop level.

As for a desktop... I dunno. I know I'm probably better off getting a desktop. The only thing is I don't want to put one together. I'd rather open a box, plug it up, and enjoy.

So yea. Anyone...help me out?

(PS: I'd like to leave Dell, I use to have an old HP before this Dell and liked it more XD)

So which are you looking for? Because if your looking to build yourself you get more bang for your buck with a desktop. I wouldn't suggest building a laptop yourself =P

I guess its really a question of what you plan on doing wih the new computer. Do you need mobile gaming capability? Would you use a laptop, or would it just sit on the desk most of the time? You can get a much better desktop, build or buy, then a laptop for the same amount of money, so unless you know you will use one, I'd buy a desktop and then if necesary later get a cheap laptop or a netbook to supplement.

HP high end laptops aren't bad. we look at them at work from time to time. Main reasonw e keep using dells is the docks are all mostly the same, and we've had some issues with HP audio drivers on laptops in the past that were annoying enough that we don't really want to switch

HP desktops tend to be under cooled. Thats my biggest complaint against them. Often single fans, not enough airflow, no redundancy.

I'd always advcate build a desktop over buy, but If I were going to get a HP desktop for gaming, I'd get either a tricked out 380t or a stock 390T in that price range

HP also owns voodoo PC now, so you could get one of their piece of **** desktops. Oops, did I say that out loud. http://www.voodoopc.com/#/productsfirebird

But seriously, a small form factor gaming PC for a desktop? That frigging lame! I don't care if its tiny, if you can't ever upgrade it, whats the point of going with a desktop!!!!

That voodoo does look odd. Reminds me of the Sony all-in-one comps.

After thinking some more, a desk top would be best.
If I had a lap top, 90% of the time it would just sit on a desk anyways. That other 10% would be when I leave the house and would like to game (aka play WoW [or other games]) or just not be at that desk >.>

Any more options, if I say I don't care on a brand?

Sure, plenty of them.

Alienware if you want to spend too much

Dell owns Alienware now, so similar on their desktops

http://www.ibuypower.com/ if you want a reasonably priced gaming machine without the best warranty support. They tend to do decent work though.
http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/ same thing
http://www.falcon-nw.com/ if you want a really nice paint job and a machine that will leave a smoking crater where your wallet used to be.
http://www.velocitymicro.com/category-gaming.php?cid=12 if you like one of the 2 cases they make
