I am thinking about buying a system so that I can enjoy FFXIV, and would like you guys opinion on this system for the price, or suggestion on a better system thats under 1k.

Best Buy has the Gateway FX FX6840 for 1200.00 but I can get it online for 870 is it a good PC for gaming, primarily for FFXIV. Specs below. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+-+Desktop+/+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i7+Processor+/+8GB+Memory+/+1TB+Hard+Drive/9974337.p?id=1218204534081&skuId=9974337

System Specs:

Intel® Core™ i7-860 processor
Features an 8MB L2 cache and 2.8GHz processor speed with Turbo Boost up to 3.46GHz.

8GB DDR3 memory

1TB SATA hard drive

ATI Radeon 5770 graphics
With 1GB discrete video memory

For $870 it's not a bad deal. For $1200, it'd be a poor use of the money.

That said, if you're trying to put together a gaming machine on a budget, you would probably want to skew things a little more towards the video card than they are in that system. A 5770 isn't a bad card, but it's not that great either.

As an example, you would do better with an i5 760 (or a good AMD chip), 4GB of memory, and a $300+ GPU, than with the components in that machine. It's not that CPU/RAM/etc don't matter, but more that running most modern games at a decent/high res with all the eye candy turned on tends to lean a bit more heavily on the GPU.

Thanks! I would prefer a 5850 but I think I will be able to run FFXIV fine, 4610 benchmark.
