New Rig -- Graphics card?Follow

#1 Jun 25 2010 at 11:52 PM Rating: Decent
to start off sorry if this post is a lot to read (and at points hard to comprehend, my spelling sucks and it doesn't help that i only got about an hour of sleep today so im a bit tired)..

ok so, im looking at building a new gaming rig, my current rig is well... a bit outdated.
just to give you an idea of what im currently working with, here are a few pieces in my current system:

cpu: amd athlon 64 x2 duel core 4200+
ram: 2gigs of who knows what
gpu: nvidia GeForce 6150 LE

surprisingly i am able to run WoW with an average fps of about 35, capping out at 60 (what i set the max to), but it changes drastically in raids and certain instances. It drops to about 5-7 fps and tends to kick me out of the game, or simply provide me with the totally overrated experience of the worlds biggest lagfest, not very good for your group when your the main healer x.x

so as im sure as you've guessed it's time i got a new system.

Specs of the system I plan on building:

OS: w7 home premium
MOBO: asus P6X58D premium
CPU: i7-930
GPU: 2x GTX 480's
RAM: 12gb GSkill ripjaws
PSU: corsair 950TX
HDD: 2x X25-m SSDs (for OS and WoW, perhaps photoshop); 2x 500Gb seagate HDDs in raid 0
Case: IN WIN Maelstrom
Monitor: 3x ASUS VH236H 23"

so.. that's the system im looking at building, i know its a bit beefy for wow, but it's no only going to be used to run one copy of wow, i would like to be able to run 10x copies at the same time, wih the main toon being on ultra settings (no shadows) and the slave toons at mid settings (i probably wont be 10x boxing but i would like the option to be able to), along with music streaming and perhaps a webpage or two.

my current problem: im not able to get the GTX 480's yet, so im looking for a temporary substitute card that is on the cheaper side which i will later transfer into my old comp.

so my question for you: what would be a good graphics card at a reasonably low price that can still run 1 copy of wow at high settings and be able to stand (for example) onyxia 25m whelps (everyone simultaniously aoe'in).

-and sorry again for my horrible spelling, but any advice or comments would help

~thanks in advance for any help / comments / opinions / whatever else :o

So.. you're looking to spend around $3800 for a very ridiculous computer, but you can't afford two 480s right now? Why not lessen the specs a smidge to make it affordable?

in response to the above post, it's not that i can't afford it atm, its that the person im getting them from (still new) is out of town for a month or so, everything else im getting is from newegg and the reason i don't really wanna just wait a month or so to get them for my new comp is my old comp (the one im on now) could really use a upgrade anyways, so may as well get my new comp going and transfer the cheap card over when i get my 480's.
