Quite possibly the wrong site to ask such a question, but I know these forums fairly well and generally trust the opinions of the people who visit them.

So I ask you the following question: How much is my computer worth? (on EBay or something similar)

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+ 2.50 GHz
3326 MB RAM
32 Bit Windows Vista Home Premium
Installed Radeon ??? either 256 or 512 MB Graphics card.
On-board sound
LightScribe DVD SuperMulti Drive/CD Writer
1 Expansion Bay
4 "slots" for varying types of "disks" (such as the one from my digital camera)
7 USB Ports

3-4 Years old. Runs everything I need except it won't install FFXI due to some error from a previous installation.

It would come with Microsoft Office and a few other video/sound editing programs.

I'm thinkin it's worth $250-$300. Maybe more.

Opinions?

OS license is worth $70-100, Office license if it is Office 2007 is worth another $100. Hardware isn't exactly high end, but with office and the OS you might get $300 for it. likely would be somewhat less than that realistically since you can get a new low end desktop from Dell or HP that exceeds that specs with an OS for $400 without office.

So putting it up for ~$250 as the minimum acceptable offer would probably get me a nibble here or there?

It honestly plays WoW really well (minus a little bit of jumpiness here are there during 25mans, not a lot though) and games with lower requirements perfectly. Haven't played any FPSs on it in awhile, but FEAR played really smoothly...

I could see how you'd call it ...oh, you said "not exactly high end"...I can live with that. I knew that when I bought it :), but as for performance it does really well in just about all situations I've used it for (such as watching a movie on one monitor and playing WoW on the other).

Anywho, thanks for the opinion. You seem like you know your ****.

As for the "license", I got Microsoft Office 2007 for Christmas and it says there are 3 Home PC Licenses...so, that means the one that's currently on this comp (that I'd be selling) which would still work, and then I could still install it on the new computer and have one more install/license left?

No problem, happy to help!

The licensing bit is a bit tricky on that particular variant of office. You are legally allowed to install it on three computers, but according to the EULA (which I have unfortunatly read on more than one occasion for my other job) you can't transfer one of those installations without transferring the license itself. So you could sell that computer with that office license, but you would legally have to surrender the documentation, CD's etc and would no longer be able to install it on those other two computers, or you could retain the license and remove the software from that computer before you sell it.

$250 might work with the DDR2 ram at 3GB and the processor being 64 bit capable. If you lose the office license you might have to go lower. But the OS license is definitly worth something. Maybe start it at $275 or best offer, then be prepared to go as low as $225 or $200 without office. If you include the office license you would likely get closer to $300, but it would depend alot on the condition of the case, any perephrials (keyboard, mice) you were selling with it, since someone looking for that class of computer is likely going to be buying their first one, throwing in a cheap keyboard and mice can definitly increase the price, the question being can you aquire them cheaply and quickly enough to make that worthwhile.

If you are going to sell the PC on eBay or somesuch, it would be worth identifying each component in the description as potential buyers will definitely want to know what graphics card you've got, just as much as they'd want to know memory etc.

If the reason your selling this is because it wont play FFXI due to an error in the installation as you said, then why not reinstall the entire operating system?

I dont understand why you cant reinstall either..

As for the price 300 is a fair offer, 200-225 is what youll probably get unless you get some ******, then your lookin at 300ish easy. Only valuable things on that machine are the OS and office key.
