frakking title bars with absolutely no info
I don't really understand what you're getting at here as most of the title bars (above windows I am assuming) are the same as they were in XP
i mean a title bar that is absolutely blank except for the min/max/close buttons. don't get me started on the freaking 8-pixel wide window borders, thankfully i found the windows classic theme that fixed both those issues. frankly, i'd prefer to get rid of the title bar altogether.

Doubt you will find much on this one as most sites and reviews I have seen adore this Nav Panel. I would suggest learning how to navigate with this new set up of Nav Panel and Address location bar as it is much more efficient... Probly why they stole it from linux.
heh? the nav pane is the old "my computer" button, except you don't get to open it at your liesure, it's in every stinking explorer window. how is it more efficient to have the same information taking up space in 8 different windows?

In before you close the info pane. No seriously just close it and or turn it off in the View options.
it's like the old status bar except it's three times taller to allow two lines of text and it repeats everything i have displayed already in details view. and if i turn it off, i can't see how big that stack of mp3's that i want to export is.

every goddamn window has a search bar
If this is a serious complaint about screen real-estate I will be over in the corner shaking my head. It doesn't even add a line to the Top menu bars in Windows 7 and is right beside the address bar.
eh, i used the old search function prolly 20 times in about 7 years.

folders won't remember settings
I honestly haven't had a problem with it and can't seem to find any info on it. All of my directories remember whether I have been viewing them as lists or small Icons and the like. One potential problem you may be having is holding CTRL and using the scroll wheel on your mouse or scroll section of your touch pad while browsing your hard drives as this zooms in and out from Large Icons to List View
this one is really getting my gander. xp used to save the location and window size for each folder individually; can't speak to details vs icons because all mine were details. this was really handy, because i had my wow addon zip download directory on the left half of the screen, and then the wow/interface/addons folder on the right, and it was super easy to do what needed to be done, especially since each one had a shortcut to the other one. now i can't get win7 to do anything but cascade new windows.

i only have 1280x800 to play with and all the wasted space is driving me crazy
Is this a laptop or a desktop. What model and is your video card discrete or is it on board. If you have a discrete video card install/update your drivers.
it's a laptop with an ati 4670 card w/1GB gddr. first thing i did when i unboxed it was reinstall windows. then i updated the BIOS, motherboard drivers, video card driver, and audio drivers.
and why the hell is the control panel the only frigging place that arranges alphabetically across the screen? the first time i opened that up looking for 'mouse options' i swear i got dizzy and had to close my eyes.
