So my Pc broke down earlier and i decided to see this as the perfect opportunity to replace the whole deal.

Managed to get a very nice ASUS M2A74-AM motherboard, screwed it in place, put on the 4x 2.6 gig processor and was expecting to get it up and running in a few minutes, BUT... then i noticed something odd.

Apparently my instruction leaflet tells me about a 24x plug i'm supposed to have for the EATXPWR (which i asume is the main power, it's the thickest bundle comming from my power unit). But all i have is a 20 plug (10x2) and a 4 plug (2x2) sort of bundled together.

Now the area i can plug it in is 12x2, like the following:

[][][][][][][][][][][][]
[][][][][][][][][][][][]

I decided that if i plugged in the 20 plug (green),

[][][][][][][][][][][][]
[][][][][][][][][][][][]

And then the 4 plug (red),

[][][][][][][][][][][][]
[][][][][][][][][][][][]

I'd fill it up. Surprisingly, it seems like the 4 plug is made to fit alongside it, as the cable isnt very long and cant be plugged in far from it into anything else. But... to be honest, i dont really trust it. Is it safe to plug it in there? I'm clueless when it comes to this.

Also, the system panel connector (10-1 pin F_Panel) tells me about 4 main plugs that go into it's shape of, however i have five. My Power Led is devided into a Pwr. Led + and a Pwr. Led -. I have no idea how to place that in the shape:

[][][][]
[][][][][]

HDD Led: [][]
Power Sw: [][]
Reset Sw: [][]
Pwr. Led +: [] ??
Pwr. Led -: [] ??

[][][][]
[][][][][]

Apparently both the + and the - go in the upper left corner, but my booklet refers to them as one. As does the text on my motherboard. I havent got a clue how to place them as far as where the + and the - go.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Regarding your first question:

Yes the 20+4 connector goes side by side and it can only go in one way. as long as you have em snug against each other you cannot mess it up.

Regarding your secdon question:

Im not sure i follow, but if its all one plug it probably can only go in one way. if not, make sure the latches on the connectors match up.

That was a very speedy reply. Thank you.

Thing i was most worried about were the power cables, which should be solved now.
There's an ATX12V 2x2 port i plugged another power thing in. Seems to be made especially for it. I suppose this new motherboard simply requires a ton of power.

As for my strange Led cable problem, I can probably just leave my led lights unplugged till i figure that out. It shouldnt be too dire in any case. I asume atleast they are just for my Led lights given the name writen on them. I imagine plugging them in backwards might shortcircuit stuff, so i'll just see if it works without that.

Thanks a bunch ^^

That was a great help ^^ Worked like a charm.

The whole manual was vague like heck about that part. Lined them up like on the picture as i suspected before, up and running now.

Atleast, back to installing windows, haha ^^

Thank you guys!

I bought a Palit Geforce GTS 250 from Newegg, to upgrade from my 8600GT. I put it in, plugged up the new power connector, and booted up. It seemed fine at first, but after trying to play UT3, as soon as I tried to shoot the computer locked up.

A GTS 250 might require a power lead plugged into it, and it might be different than the 4 pin molex (black red yellow one) that the 8600 gt required. you might also need a driver update. Get the latest driver from nvidia.com if you haven't already, and check that your power supply has enough juice. for a 250 you will want a minimum of a 550 watt power supply. anythign less might boot, but won't be stable in full load.
