Help in building a PC...Follow

#1 Nov 20 2009 at 11:47 PM Rating: Good
I plan on getting a new computer sometime next year and have been looking at cyberpowerpc for options. Right now I'm deciding to go with this for $1335, but I'm wondering if there are ways to improve it with my budget. I really don't plan on going over $1400 since I want to get my own monitor seperately and probably need a new computer desk just to fit this PC in. I know nothing about building a PC by myself. I want my computer to last for a long time and plan on using this computer not only for gaming but to finish my college work too. (computer animation major here.)

In-Win Maelstrom Full Tower Gaming Case w/ Sound Absorbing Foam
800W CyberPowerPC XF800S Power Supply
Intel® Core™ i7-920 2.66 GHz 8M L3 Cache LGA1366
Asetek Liquid CPU Cooling System
(3-Way SLI Support) MSI X58 Pro-E Intel X58 Chipset SLI/CrossFire DDR3 Mainboard
6GB (2GBx3) PC1333 DDR3 PC3 10666 Triple Channel Memory
ATI Radeon HD 5850 PCI-E 16X 1GB Video Card [DirectX 11 Support]
500GB SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 16MB Cache 7200RPM HDD
LG 22X DVD±R/±RW + CD-R/RW Dual Layer Drive
Creative Labs SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio 24-BIT PCI Sound Card
Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bit

Thanks in advance.

Are you going to Overclock?
If not you wont need any liquid cooling, just use the stock fan.
If so, I reckon just some aftermarket air cooling will do the trick, unless you want to clock it around 4Ghz, might get a little hot then :P

If you do decide against the liquid, you wont really need a full tower, a Mid tower like an Antec900 or something does the trick quite well.

Depending on how good your sound system is, a motherboard with a built-in audio card is completely fine. But if you have something like 7.1 surround sound, the yeah the X-Fi Xtreme Audio would sound sic.

Don't plan on overclocking. Wouldn't even know how to begin with, but that's nice to know. Guess I'll go with the CoolerMaster Storm Sniper mid-tower then along with the CoolerMaster V8 Gaming CPU Cooling Fan.

I just have Logitech X-140 speakers, so the original choice of High Definition On-Board 7.1 Audio would be good enough?

Thanks again.

It depends, if you listen to music a lot I'd at minimum invest in the sound card, if not then see if they have a less expensive version available. After haveing and older pc's onboard sound die, i have allways gotten a sound card cause no sound sucks. If you listen to music, Id go with a card even if you get one at a later date, they are easy to install.

The build tho looks good and appears it wil last and o what you want

More questions. Would I be able to get away with a 700W power supply with this setup, or am I pushing it?

I plan on upgrading the RAM to 8GB in the future if I get this. Is Patriot RAM good?

Yea, should be more than enough. Not sure about the rest of the components, but the highest requirement I've seen for the video card is 500W.

Don't really know for sure, but if you buy it from Newegg and it's not, with their RMA process it's fairly easily replaced. However a quick search of Newegg listed Crucial and Corsair as being cheaper than Patriot, and they're a known entity.
