Looking for some advice, thanks in advance.

I have this Motherboard: MCP6P M2+ 6.x

A cheapie.

I have a NVIDIA 9800GT (with external power), Vista Home Premium 64bit, 650w PS, 4GB Corsair DDR2 (800), 2 500gb WD SATA2 Drives, and a Athlonx2 64 6000+ processor (3.0 Ghz).

Could someone recommend an upgrade Motherboard that can utilize my current hardware?

My goal is to increase my RAM to 6GB+ and possibly have SLI (but not my priority). I might need a Power Supply update, time will tell.

This is for moderate gaming like WoW and AION, but also for photo/video editing. I am noticing that my memory is running close to 3.7gb of usage when editing. I am having no gaming issues, even on max settings. I can even run Conan with no issues.

Thanks so much for any help that you can give me!

That really won't help him considering his original MB is a Micro ATX unless he has a Micro ATX board in a standard case.

Here is what I would recommend.

SLI in a Micro ATX form factor is going to be hard honestly.

If you don't in fact have a Micro ATX board like the one you linked to mythryl then you can disregard this post.

Hmmm.

Well my tower is full-sized and the MB doesn't take up a whole lot of space in it. It is actually quite difficult to connect the SATA connectors, cause they are almost next to the PCI-E slot...

The case has 5 5.25 external expansion bays, 2 3.5 external bays, and more standard HD slots inside.

With that said, I think my case is large enough for most MBs on the market. It has multiple pre-tapped configurations that MBs would connect to; larger than the MB currently installed.

(Sorry for being so ignorant)

Thank you both for these suggestions!

seeing as how you want it for dual purpose, video editing and gaming, is there a particular reason you are sticking with the cpu you allready have?
I ask this, because atm it would seem your cpu would be the limiting factor with the hardware you currently run assumeing you have max memory for that motherboard.

Secondly I know very little about amd, but know enough about vista to say that you might be better off running the Win 7 64 bit, with maybe an intel quad core. If you have a particular budget for this give me a hard cap, and i will see what i can do to stay under it,
and also help you get the performance you are looking for.

Actually, I have usually stuck to AMD processors for budgetary reasons. They have always performed well for me, at least up to this point.

A Windows 7 (64bit) upgrade is already sitting on my desk, so I'll definitely agree with you about upgrading past Vista.

I would say that processor & motherboard total; I wouldn't want to spend more than $400. I don't know if that's feasible, but its about all I could muster at the moment.

Thank you very much, everyone, for all of the suggestions.

ok 400 is a good starting point, id suggest an upgrade like this

for the cpu and perhaps this

for the mobo. it would require that you get newer ram, but would make for a good solution assuming the ram didnt break the bank, and give you the performance for
both gaming and editing that it seems you want. Btw the ram is ddr3 and the mobo supports up to 16gb so that shouldnt be a problem nor will the 9800gt etc or the psu. Mobo chip and ram should make for a damn fine combination for both savings and for performance

They look like perfect upgrades Smiley: nod

Looks like I would have to upgrade my memory, though. Maybe I can just collect the items and then upgrade all at once.

Nice Nice

Thank you very much!
