Ok first and foremost. A: Yes I do live near a microcenter, and B: no I am not going to build an i7 920 computer. Dont want to pay 100 dollars more for a board and 50 dollars more for ram when I can pay 40 dollars more for a processor and save 110.
So the build I am going for is this.
Phenom 2 X4 965
OCZ Vertex 60 gig. (already have)
8 gigs (4x2gb) of Patriot 1333 ram. (ddr3)
Now if you notice, I have not listed the board or the video cards. That is because I am torn between going with the MSI NF980-G65 or the new Gigabyte AM3 board.
MSI is the only company making true am3 SLI boards right now, so If I want to SLI, I have to use them.
I am torn between getting 2 GTX 280s and a 9600(for PhysX) on the MSI board, or going with gigabyte and getting the 5850s.
Currently the ATI 5k series is the only cards to support DX11. However, and as many of you know this, ATi Drivers SUCK!!! It will also not be long until Nvidia will come out with their DX11 capable chips. (Probably when they release the GTX300 series) Price wise, I will be paying about the same. However performance wise the Nvidia barely wins out, even with fusion for ATi.
Btw all of this will be put into the CM HAF 932 case.
My question is what would you choose? I am currently torn on what I want. Do I get the DX11 ready cards when no one is even programming for it yet, nor will I be able to utilize it to its fullest till first quarter next year? Or do I get the better performing cards and just wait and see if there is a driver update that will allow them to run DX11? (as is what happened with some of the later 8000 series cards.
