Core2 quad for gaming over duelFollow

#1 Oct 09 2009 at 3:10 PM Rating: Decent
Someone told me that Core2 quad is a waste of money for gaming. I know that most programs and game can not take advantage of the full. this is my basic specs.

HP Pavilion Elite m9528c Desktop PC -
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz, 8GB DDR2, 640GB
HDD, DVDRW, Vista Home Premium 64-bit
NVIDIA geforce 9500gs 515.

Was told Duel core was way better and faster for gaming. I got a good deal on this computer but wondering if i should of just got a 3.0+ duel processor instead.

First you didnt state how much you are getting the hp for, though i doubt it is cheap enough to compete with a good Ibuypower.com system. But since you ask the quad core isnt a waste, assuming you do more than just game at the same time. for example word processing gaming and surfing then yes a quad core isn't a bad idea for those that multi task heavily. Are you one of those or just a gamer looking for an edge. If the latter, Id suggest getting at least a core2 duo and a better graphics card and memory and go with winxp or i7 since is due out soonish.

Cant truly answer all your questions, till we get a bit more information, but go have a look at Ibuypower.com and compare their prices to dell etc by comparing the mobo sound card memory amount type etc to what you are looking at and it's price, you will be glad you did.
