Q about Routers . . .Follow

#1 Aug 14 2009 at 10:20 AM Rating: Good
So I'm new to the world of Cable internet. I've been rocking dial-up for the past 10+ years.
We finally were able to get the cable company in our town to run us the goods.
All is good, but I own more then one comp and no jack about routers.
So I've looked up 2 and just need some info >.>

The 1st and the 2nd.

What i want to know is: Can I still hook up comps via cables to the 2nd one?
I have another comp I want to get online at the same time with (and another one, but atm just the 2). They sit side by side, and neither of them have a wireless card, but I want to be able to have the option (and so I can play my DS online..nothing beats Tetris and Mariokart!).

total n00b here -.-
&
Thanks

PS: if there is another brand name I should look at, let me know. Linksys just seesm to be the one(s) I see the most.

Linksys is good, and yes you can connect up to 4 devices to that router in wired format.

Don't forget to secure your new wireless connection with an actual password. I can't tell you how many linksys connections I've been able to tap on wifi without any effort at all.

Wireless while convinient is less secure because of the ability to attempt to steal a password. If you live in a high traffic area with a lot of neighbors I would think about a wired router. Dlink makes one you can commonly find for 20 to 30 and it is a solid and durable router. that being my second point is that pricewise they will be abou the same unless you can learn to make your own cat5 cables. they are easy enough, but it is helpful to buy the tool

I live 4 miles out of town, and we have this code: Not suppose to me on my land, but you are, a bullet or 2 might come your way.

Smiley: lol

The wireless was so I can play my Nintendo DS online, and for later when we/if we get wireless cards.
