[Tech Help] Hooking up a Laptop to a TV?Follow

So after spending 2 and a half hours standing over my hubby's shoulder with my twin sister, peering down at his little 16 inch screen as he played bioshock. I had to think in this day and age there has to be a better way! I mean this is the future right? Maybe someone more tech savvy then I could help me figure this out. :3

How can I connect a Laptop to my TV?

So we have a brand new TOSHIBA Satellite A505 it has connections for HDMIx1, VGAx1, USBx4.

Then a Super Old CRT glass face TOSHIBA large screen TV; it has connections for Composite (Red, White, Yellow) and S-Video.

If it's possible to route this through the VCR/DVD combo instead of straight to the TV then I also have a Sylvania SRD 2900 with connections for Component and S-Video.

So I was thinking of getting a VGA to S-Video cable (Which I've been told by Bestbuy and two Radioshacks doesn't exisit, but I can find online) for picture then a headphone jack/RAC(sp?)cable for sound. So I realize it's never as easy as plugging in said cable and going "Viola!" and it works. This is where I'm getting fuzzy; some places say you then need a converter too, while others say it's dependent on your graphics card (but what I can't figure out. :<) or that it's dependent on your TV.

Anyone more tech minded know if this is possible with my equipment? Or is it a lost cause?

Well all my cables and such arrived today. We're all set up. :3
I ended up getting a S-Video to VGA converter and a basic audio Y cable. This site you linked was very handy and broke things down simply in a way I was unable to find else where. Thanks a bunch Shaowstrike. ^^v
