Guess I have been living under a rock but I guess a new version of windows is coming out today? Supposed to be half price if bought within the first week. I am still using Windows XP Pro (32 bit version). Everything that I seem to do generally works fine with it. I do have a 64 bit CPU though so I am wondering if it would greatly improve my performance to upgrade? Anybody used any beta versions of this new Windows?

My biggest concern would be its going to hog more resources to run and that it won't be compatible with anything for months. Most of my hardware is fairly new (nothing over 2 years old).

Windows 7, from what I've read and seen reviewed throughout the Beta, has gotten fairly good marks. It's streamlined like Vista without being a total resource hog. Especially in PC gaming mags, they have nothing but good things to say about it. There has been some compatibility issues with things like iTunes and other software, but that's to be expected with a beta OS until the devs of common software get on the ball developing specifically for the newest OS on the market.

Um, what? Last I heard release was going to be late '09 to '10, I haven't really been following it though. If it's hitting today they must have really bumped it up. A release several months early has me a bit concerned coming from Microsoft.

Edit: Straight off Microsofts website, Windows 7 preorder section.

$50 for the home edition seems like a pretty good deal. It will go for about $120 once it comes out (in Oct.).

The comp I'm on is from back in '04 and am still using XP (i just got SP3 not too long ago lol). The upgrade would be nice, but I would need 1gb of RAM (as I only have 512). Not too pricey of an upgrade, but that is all I can do to this comp.

So wish I had the cash for a new comp.
I heard on the local news, people who buy a comp within a certain time frame will be able to get W7 for cheap/free as an upgrade from Vista.

reading the link above, it is saying peeps get to upgrade for free. That is cool.

Thinking long and hard about pre-ordering, as I need and want a new computer.

I may just wait until I actually go and might just buy a ****** stock PC with W7 on it, then upgrade parts.

I'm currently running the Windows 7 RC (64-bit) and I haven't had too many issues with it. There have been some compatibility issues with games, but that's not hard to remedy by running it in a compat mode.

Words can't express how bad of an idea this would be.
