Critique my new box pleaseFollow

#1 Jun 11 2009 at 1:05 PM Rating: Default
Hello,

I'm somewhat a novice at computers and I've had the one I have now for over 8 years

I just can't compete anymore with my box due to 5 fps in most raids

If anyone could take a quick glance at this build and maybe suggest something cheaper or maybe something I left out that would be great

I wanted to come in under $400 bucks, but I don't see what I could do diffrently

I only want the box for WoW, that's it. Nothing else matters as far as a computer (it all gets **** mirite??)

Thanks in advance

You need to make your wishlist public for people who can't log in with your Newegg account to see it.

Case is a little expensive, and I haven't researched this particular one, but generally include case power supply is junk.

If you're not overly concerned with how it looks, something along this line:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147068

Would save you money. At $30 shipped, it's close to free. You don't need an over the top power supply with a 4850, and could probably pick one up for another $20-$25 shipped.

You could buy cheaper ram and likely not notice the difference, but it's marginal savings wise. Don't forget to consider shipping costs with any components, particularly cases where it an add up fast. Good luck.

ETA: There's a combo deal with that particular case and an E5400 for $104 for both, free shipping. I'd do that. Add an inexpensive power supply and you save quite a bit of money. The 5400 will perform identically to the e7400 in WoW, both are massive overkill. It's also trivially easy to overclock the 5400 with your motherboard to outperform the 7400 with essentially no risk.

I'd junk the case and buy a full tower.

And a solid power supply.

or something of the like. I'm not a fan of case/PSU combo's. usually you get shafted.

what smash said about the combo case/cpu is agreeable.

Well, generally cases with included power supplies are not cheap, but Antec is not bad.

As for charredmeat's suggestion, I think 750w is a little overkill. I'd say 500 - 650w will get what you need. Most often people have way too much wattage (and some extra is definitely good).

Other than that, I think you have some good choices there. Good luck.
