Anybody recommend a good program that is simple to use that can take most video files (mpeg) and burn it into a dvd that is playable on most dvd players. MY burner came with that HP easy cd creator but it always gets to some random point in the burning process and pops up some stupid error code and ruins the dvd-r.
I don't think there is anything wrong with my hardware I have no problem burning files to a cd or dvd and using windows media player I can burn audio cd's without a problem.
Don't really want to have to go through the hassle of using gobs of different programs to decode and convert etc. I don't really care about the quality as long as it is watchable. I don't need (or want) any fancy menu or any type of special effects added.
Freeware stuff would be preferred or maybe a trial program that forces to burn at 1X speed or something.

TMPGEnc DVD Author for conversion from .mpeg to DVD .vob files then Imgburn to burn it to a DVD.
Imgburn is free, but TMPGEnc is a trial version. You can probably search Afterdawn for more encoding programs if you don't like it.
You can also try this program, I haven't used it myself so I can't tell you what the results will be.

I would suggest DVD Flick. It's open source and pretty much supports any file format you throw at it.
For a commercial dvd authoring program I've heard ConvertXToDVD is pretty easy to use.
