First off let me inform you that I am not technology literate at all.

Now here is the problem.

I recently purchased the FFXI 360 version. I installed the game, downlaoded all the updates, and played the game for a few days.

I went to log in today and I get a message that says:

The disc is unreadable. Please remove the disc and clean blah blah blah.

The disc is perfectly fine, no scratches or anything, I have never been disconnected, shut the game of improperly, or experienced any crashes.

The 360 acts like it wants to load the game from the disc, sounds like it spins it 3 or so times before giving me the message.

I did read some other forums and was told to install POL to my HD, which I did, but I am still getting this error message. The 360 wont even load POL from it's hard drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time in answering this question.

Ah the ol 360 how I love thee.

1. Does it read/play other games fine?

Depending on that answer we can go a few seperate routes.

If that answer is no it wont play anything, you need to contact microsoft and send it in to get fixed. Xboxs havea tendancey to stop reading discs and such. Microsoft will fix it for free just call them up.

If the answer is yes it palys other games fine, then uninstall ffxi and pol and reinstall. You could have a corrupted file somewhere. If that doesnt fix the problem I would still send it in to microsoft just incase.

Yes, it reads other games fine. Here is a little more background.

My old 360 got the 3 rings of death. I sent it in to get fixed and they sent me a replacement unit. Mind you FFXI worked fine on my old 360 before it broke. I put my HD back on the new one and the problem begain there. Other games would play, but not FFXI. I called Playonline and they instructed me to contact xbox support. I then called xbox support to try and trouble shoot the problem. We did find a corrupt file in the HD and I removed it like they told me to, but it still didnt work. Long story short I sent that one back in.

In the mean time I got tired of waiting so I went out and purchased a brand new 360 with the 60GB HD (even a new copy of FFXI for the disc). The game worked perfectly up until yesterday. Like I stated in my previous post I have never been disconnected, shut the game down improperly, or had any crashes. I simply logged of, ate some food, then tried to log back in. Thats when I got the disk error.

I then spent the next few hours uninstalling, reinstalling, downloading, everything. Downloaded the POL to my HD (which was empty before I downloaded it), and tried to fire it up again, still nothing. I called xbox support once more and they instucted me it was an error in SE's end, I then called Playonline today and they told me it was a hardware problem and to contact xbox support. Basically neither of them know what is wrong.

To sum it up I am pretty frustrated at this point. A 3 day old xbox, with a new HD, a new disc, works fine, then BOOM. Hope this sheds more light on the problem if anyone has any ideas. Once again, thank you in advance for the help.

Well unfortunately it could be a bad xbox you bought. To test, if you have a friend, take your xbox hdd and ffxi disc and strap it on to his box. This will confirm if it is indeed a busted xbox or not.
