I have a modem which also serves as wireless router, and i was just curious if i could disable it from transmitting the wireless signal but still retain the internet connection via a cable to my computer?

The modem/router is a Belkin if that is of any use.

Thanks for your answers.

Yes, the wireless settings should be separate from the rest of the settings. Infact there is likely a setting for the wireless portion where you can choose "Disabled".

Sorry to ask but where would I find these settings? I can't seem to find them.

Just to clarify it is the router I want to stop transmitting, not altering the capabilities of my computer to receive a wireless signal.
This is stop other members of the household from using the internet when I'd rather they didn't :P

I believe the default Belkin Router IP address is 192.168.2.1

Open up your Internet Browser, and type in that IP address. This will open a web-based configuration for your router. I don't think the Belkin routers are passworded by default, so just leave that blank (You can change it later to anything you want, and probably should).

That will get you into the configuration and let you turn off the wireless. You could also restrict your access so that you can not allow some PCs to connect, instead of just turning off wireless all together.
