I've got an old computer sitting in my room that has about 250GB of old junk on it.

I want to be able to access this from my new computer. But I don't want to hook up my old computer onto my home network. (Mainly because that would mean running a second ethernet cable down into my basement and across/up into my living room.)

I'd like to use the "Firewire" connection available on both my computers to setup a little private network between the two. But I don't know exactly how I'd go about doing this.

Are there any compatibility issues I need to look out for, or do I just need an cable with the proper ends to plug into both?

Just to make sure, this is the same thing as a I-link S400 connection right? I need to get one of those cables as well if so..

As opposed to running a firewire cable down into your basement and across/up into your living room? Do you use the old computer for anything? Why not just physically install the disk in the new computer.

Both computers are in my room, about 4 feet apart. The one is completely hooked up, and I use it occasionally for things. I still use it to balance my checkbook, etc.
