My problem is after installing FFXI on a new machine, and it crashes when I use a background resolution of 1024x1024. If the overall resolution is very high, it crashes on title screen, if it's a little lower, it'll load up the game, the lighting will dim and brighten, then crash at some point. Why?

Why not:
- My new computer can definitely handle the game, it's a newer laptop with higher specs and graphics card than my old laptop.
- Updated my graphics driver
-Directx 9.0c on it

Here's the thing: DirectX's DirectDraw diagnostic test failed when attempting to draw a white square at full screen (other tests worked). The fullscreen test gave me the BSOD.

Any clues as to this?

What is the native resolution of your desktop? The game resolution can't be higher then your desktop resolution; it has to be the same or lower.
