I'm no computer wiz, so I'm not sure what to do here. My PC is pretty new (like 1.5 years old) so I'm not thinking that the video card is the problem here. When I boot up my PC, the monitor stays blank when plugged into the video card. However when I plug it into the on board video on the mother board it works. Problem is that FFXI looks like crap with the on board video. It has black lines across the screen and pixelation and just looks... ugh. Any ideas on how to make my video card respond? Its an ATI Sapphire X1950 PRO. Thanks^^

1st Question: Has it ever worked? Or is this something new that you haven't got to work yet?

It has always worked. Just doesn't now all of a sudden.

Seems like it died. If your on board video works and the card does not.
Are you mechanically adept? If you are. Open your comp and reseat the video card and check it again. Don't forget to unplug your computer before you open it and stick your hands in side it.

It could be your video card crapping out on you.

If you have a spare one (even an older model) try swapping it out.

Your video card is fried. Purchase a new one.

Would the video card inside still have the fan blowing and appear to be receiving power if it was fried?

Maybe. No one can really tell what the problem is with the information you've presented is the real answer. It could be your motherboard, it could be the card, it could be the pci-e slot, it could be that you or someone else managed to disable the card, it could be that your bios is bad, it could be that god hates you.

Without another video card or a another machine to test your video card in, no one can determine the problem. In terms of probability, the most likely explanation is something is wrong with the card. That's where you are. Unless you can test individual parts somehow, it's impossible to know what's wrong.

Well this morning everything works again and I did nothing to fix it. Weird things keep happening like this to my PC. For instance, the slot where the CAT-5 cable plugs into the motherboard sometimes loses power and I have no internet for a few hours. Then all of a sudden it starts working again. These things always happen during a period in which the PC has been off. Nothing has ever occurred while the PC is running. Odd.

Not really. It's likely just a loose connection somewhere that will eventually come apart completely and everything will stop working. It's not magic.
