EN8800GS power requirements. Follow

#1 Jan 05 2009 at 2:18 PM Rating: Decent
I just bought a Asus EN8800GS card to fit inside my Dell E520. The comp has the standard 320 watt power supply installed, and the card calls for a minimum of 400. I've seen some posts around claiming that the Dell power supply is actually underrated, and that it will actually give enough power to run the card, but I'm just wondering if anyone actually has tried one of these little power supplies on a 400 watt card with any luck. Oh, and what's the worst that can happen if I plug it in to find out?

If a piece of hardware calls for a certain voltage it usually just best practice to make sure you meet that.

Could it work on a 320, possibly however it can also potentially cause damage. Not very likely however there is still a chance.

The worst possible case is your kill your card.

You should look to see if it supports a low voltage mode, should be in your documentation for the card.
