Aargh.Follow

I've got malware! Somewhere along the line, in the past day or two, my computer has become ill. Once the popup happens again, I can give you more information on the contents of the popup, but until then, just know that whenever I run firefox, or any other web browser, I get popups (that open in an Internet Explorer window, regardless of the browser I'm currently using.)

There are probably tech people cringing after seeing that. I've been doing some searches on some of those files that look out of place, or seem suspicious to a semi-computer savvy person. Like Sazukojo.dll. I believe my popup problem has something to do with that.

AVG just finished it's daily scan, and it picked up a FakeAlert virus, I haven't gotten another popup since then, so I've got my fingers crossed. Ran Hijackthis again and got a new log.

Looks like that Sazukojo.dll thing is gone.

Your computer has a name? Velma? why not scooby?

My Client has the same issue and I am currently at his home trying to remove the infection, It has taken over his computer by 80% we can barely operate windows.
I've installed ad-aware 2008 and I’m currently running a in depth scan so far its half done and detected 12 infected files.
Hopefully this will work.

I'll give that a shot early in the week. I started an ad-aware scan before I left for work, was hoping that could give me a better clue as to what it was that I've caught.

From what I'm gathering, you may be right Tirith. Most of the popups end up with a realistic looking system message (save for the fact you can close it with the X button)

Generally, if I run into stuff that serious where a simple scan with my antivirus or Spybot won't remove it, I just use system restore to drop it back prior to the malware showing up. It seems to be alot less painless than doing all the registry edits and crap needed to get rid of the nastier stuff.

I think it did. Why is it I always download/run umpteen different programs and solutions before running a simple one and having it fix everything. Malwarebytes did the trick, I hope. Been surfing for an hour now and no popups, so I think it got it. Thanks again y'all!





Wow, according to FireFox, umpteen is a word, it's sad that FireFox still isn't.

Everything that is there looks safe. There is one suspicious entry:

That *might* be a left over. I ran another hijackthis scan on mine and found a similar entry (just different random 8 letter dlls). But I don't have any infections according to AVG or Spybot. Also the files that the entries refer to do not exist. (They are no where in my system or system32 folders).

Anyone else around here have any insight? I personally would hate to delete it and ***** my system up, and wouldn't want to tell Nix to and ***** his up.

I "fixed this" on my similar entry. Rebooted, everything works fine. Ran the check again and the entry is gone.

I searched all over looking for any legitimate purpose for them, and couldn't find any. HijackThis says that the O20 thing is a very early windows startup thing, which is what this Virtumonde would do (copy itself very early, making it hard to stop).

I'd delete that entry, it won't hurt your system.
