Stupid computerFollow

I don't know if I should post this here, but I'm trying nonetheless.

Basically, my computer suddenly shuts down on his own, going through the whole logging out effect of Windows XP. I'm not giving him any order to shut down, it just does it, randomly.

I'm getting greatly annoyed at this. Any ideas how to fix it?

There is a long list of solutions including checking if its faulty ram or a bucnh of other factors such as the MB being slightly loose and shorting on the case. It could even be the power off switch shorting out inside and deciding it activates itself forcing a comp shutdown.

Answer these questions:

How old is the computer?
Have you done any recent upgrades?
Have you installed any new programs recently?
Are you getting any warnings?

Alright somethings you can try.

1. Reseat your ram. That means pulling your ram out (with the computer unplugged) and reinserting it.

2. Reseat your graphics card. (see above for instructions)

3. If you have a spare computer, try swapping your power supply in the broke to the other one to make sure its still working.

4. Dust out your case. (I would recommend this one regardless)

Try some of that and report back please.

How old is your computer?
Who makes your computer?
When did you last reformat?
Have you installed any new hardware recently?

What operating system are you running?

Things you can try:

1. Reseat the graphics card and ram.
2. Test your powersupply in another computer.

Occasionally takes a little while to update. Just wait. Now you have a double post :)

You haven't taken the time to answer any of the questions asked of you. How do you expect any help?

Actually I did. Alabont and me had PMs about this very subject. Guess I should've said them out here too, though.

It's about 6 years old but works fine outside of this and minor lag in online games.

No new hardware, no new program, reformatted last year maybe?

BTW, a failing power supply would be my first guess.

I understand that it's the primary suspect. But would a power supply failure really cause my Windows XP to "correctly" log off but itself?

Next time it happens reboot your PC. When you get into Windows right click the start button and click "Properties". Click the "Customize" button and in the next window go down to "Advanced Start Menu Options" and click "Display Administrative Tools". Hit OK and close those windows out, next go to Start > Programs > Administrative Tools and click "Event Viewer". When that loads up select "Application" in the left list and look for any warning or error messages in the right list that occured around the same time that the PC shut itself down. Repeat for the "System" option; if you find any post them here.

I have a theory. I think a certain key combo actually provokes this shutdown. Surprising, huh? I'll go into intensive testing tomorrow.

No, shift and that button right on top of it, other and the "enter". My keyboard is weird by nature. The 6 on the numpad is not working and the 9 produces a â—‹. My ALT sometimes pops a 6. I think the keyboard is the problem.

So was it the keyboard?

Yeah, I changed it last night and nothing makes the computer close down anymore. It's kinda funny how my keyboard ****** me up for so long.
