I've been playing since 04 and have been using a router since. Problem has been off and on but not as severe until recently (no recent changes made to any part of the network).

I play FFXI on Xbox 360. My internet connection is Comcast Cable. My modem is a Motorolla Surfboard SB5100. I play connected through a router. The router is a Linksys Etherfast router, model BEFSB41. My internet connection hits a splitter where it's connected to several other splitters to provide cable television to 3 television throughout the house. My internet line is stemming from the very first splitter like it should. All 4 ports of my router are used (not the ports you forward, the ports you connect ethernet lines to). One port is for FFXI on my 360, one port is for my laptop, one port is for the upstairs PC, one port is for my PS3.

The PS3 is nearly never used. The 360, my laptop, and the upstairs PC are almost always being used. No P2P programs or any sort ot high-traffic filesharing programs are ever being used on either (my laptop and the upstairs PC are only ever used for browsing). My problem is: everytime I either use my laptop or the upstairs PC, I immediately start R0ing FFXI and crawl to 0% before getting disconnected with the same as always POL Error: 4001. I hardly ever recieve POL Error: 0512 following this error. When I start to R0, I must disconnect my router and reset the signal by waiting 30 seconds before replugging it back in. It's a majory annoyance because the upstairs PC is used constantly so I have to constantly replub the router. It makes for a real disappointing time during events and HNMs.

I've tried everything from opening the ports on the router to setting static IPs. I've disabled all firewalls on every system on the network, including the router, and even tried using DMZ. Nothing works. If I can't find a solution soon, I'm purchasing a seperate internet connection from a seperate company and paying seperate for it just to play FFXI, not from behind a router, straight from the modem. I'm hoping not to do this however if I can manage to find a solution soon.

If anyone has had this problem and has tried everything (including port forwarding) and found this problem still persists, please provide any input.

Some things I would suggest to try it;

-Default your router
-Do a firmware update on your router (be careful you can brick it)
-Remove the splits and see if you can do it from

Modem -> Router -> Consoles
                -> Computers

There shouldn't be any reason why you can't connect. I have 3 computers and 2 consoles all running FFXI at the same time while doing P2P. Granted I need to monitor the P2P otherwise it will kill connections however that is by an obvious reason.

I would sooner say that a default and firmware update will fix your issues. If you have access to a friend who has hardware on hand see if you can burrow a router to test with. Linksys is good stuff so I don't think the hardware is failing, but it's always possible.
