Extremely Sluggish/Stalling FFXI UpdatesFollow

Well, here's the deal. When Wings of the Goddess was released, I bought it and did a completely fresh install on my brand-new computer, 2G ram, 9600GT OC GeForce graphics card, more HD space than you can shake a stick at, and Prairiewave high-speed internet. Worked great. Just last month, I cancelled my FFXI account and moved to college, but yesterday I decided I wanted to renew my FFXI account.

So I do another full install, everything installs fine, POL updates perfectly, no problems whatsoever logging into PlayOnline. But when I try to update FFXI itself, everything comes to a grinding halt. Usually I get away with downloading one or two files before the updater completely stops. Now I've been stuck on a single file for the past hour. Normally I'd think that it would just be my university's security settings, but being able to handle POL, but not FFXI? Confusing...

I think it also bears mentioning that Steam, WoW, and Company of Heroes all connect 100% without a hitch. Anyone know what the issue might be?
