What if some total n00b installs XP SP3 on their system, which proceeds to disable the slave hdd.....

And it has FFXI on it....

Does said n00b walk off a cliff, or is there anything this n00b can do without a complete reinstall, FFXI included (gdi long update >.<) - apparently system restore didn't cover it (/wrists)

Oh well, i guess said n00b couldn't be made to feel any worse than they already do..... so that comment is completely disregarded.... so I don't see why you made that effort.

Now why did SP3 disable your slave drive?

Also system restore will not cover hardware failure or pretty much anything really.

Have you tried different connecting your HDD to a different IDE connector/ SATA connector, power wire came loose?

Check around and come back.

Also theres a tech support forum here.

I feel your pain.

I could only imagine what it must be like to lose FFXI like that, I mean a game that takes months IRL time for your character to take a ****. The tediousness alone stands testament to how patient you are. I remember that game quite well, it was like watching paint dry in a sauna. I got all the way into the upper 70's in that game, then something strange happened. I realized the game for the piece of **** that it is, so I quit. All those hours of standing around LFG, and scratching my large balls all gone to waste, but never to return again. It was gratifying pyrrhic victory. It is a loss I do not mourn nor regret.

I recommend you do the same.

LOL Guess this n00b learned another non-n00b thing to add to his ********

Maybe if I'd thought to use Device Manager to redetect the drive, maybe this situation would not have arisen.....

And I was thinking of something to rhyme with 8, but I guess that I'm too late >:D
