OT - New Computer Build :D (was forum=21)Follow

#1 Apr 30 2008 at 11:06 AM Rating: Decent
Way off topic...this is just a need to brag...lol.

My current build:
AMD 64+ 3200
1GB ram
GeForce 7800GT OC

The upgrade that's on it's way:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700
4GB OCZ PC6400 High Quality Ram
Dual GeForce 9600 GT XXX version in SLI setup

:D

I'm a happy Warlock.

Needless to say I kinda stopped playing this game...not because of lag but because I don't have time to play anymore...I'm sure as hell gonna see what this new system is gonna do with this game once I get 'em.

Rawr...this new gaming rig is gonna chew up Crysis and spit it right back out.

It'll be like shooting ducks with tactical nuclear warheads.

Grats on the purchase, though. Went from an old AMD Athlon 2500+ to an Intel Core 2 Quad myself. Not only does it run most things flawlessly, the noise it puts out is also only one fifth or so.

Sometimes I forget to turn it off, simply because it's so silent. The old rig sounded like a jet firing up its engines.

Dual GeForce 9600 GT XXX version in SLI setup

Nice, but ******* loud.

I'd spend the money on water cooling it if you're technically savvy.

I am very technically savvy...and I hate having the trouble of maintaining a water cooling system.

When I bought my computer case (thermaltake armor w/25cm fan)I pretty much solved any cooling problems...for one the 25cm fan is ******* awesome and I still have like 5-6 fan bays inside the case...not to mention that it's a full tower case meaning increased room and increased air flow.

My current build is ****, I know, but it remains ice cold all day long with this setup...I doubt I will need cooling.

I doubt this setup will be as loud as you think it will :P

You clearly haven't heard the fan on the 9600 GT. Not a big deal, enjoy it.

That loud uh?

Well then I might be forced to get water cooling if its as loud as it seems...I've never really had a problem with noise before...hope it works out...meh I could always use headphones if it's that loud...

Anyhow thanks for the heads up...I'll wait and see...

Jesus Christ, a 25cm fan bay + more fan bays?

Hot **** right there...
#8 May 02 2008 at 8:40 AM Rating: Decent
That's right. My case has a huge 25cm fan on the side panel, very quiet and very effective...plus, like I said the case is big hence increased air flow. I knew what I was buying hehe :D

here's a link to it:

omg.

This PC owns.

No matter how hard I try, I can't lag.

I'm gonna buy crysis and supreme commander and see what this system can really do...

Nearly 14000 on 3dmark 06.
250+ fps on the counter strike source stress test.
Max fps on wow, doom 3, quake 4 with maximum graphics.

My system will perform its best on windows vista and I'm still on XP Pro SP2...I need to get that.

Anyhow...I'm like a little boy who just got a shiny new fire truck at Christmas.

That's awful. Did you not SLI them properly?

Check your zeroes smash; that's a fourteen thousand. AKA really good, about what I'd expect for a system with his stats.

No, it's not. SLIed factory overclocked 9600GTs should be in the 16ks, *easily*.

Stop wasting my time posting about things you don't understand. Thanks.

Edit: Don't get me wrong, it's a meaningless synthetic benchmark, if he's happy with the performance, that's all that matters. That's a *very* low score for that setup, though.

Unf, I didn't notice they were 9600s, I honestly saw an 8800 there.

And seriously, knock it the @#%^ off with the whole acting like a Richard to every other person who tries to be helpful. I recalled your mentioning dyslexia before so thought you may have overlooked the last zero.

That's a fair point. I apologize. Thanks for trying, honestly.

SLIed 8800GTs are probably substantially faster. Video card names don't make much sense.

Smash please provide proof to what you are saying so I can believe you...people who conduct benchmarks usually go with the top CPU and Memory for their results...I hardly have that.

Actually from all the research I've done I have good results...anyhow I provide you with the opportunity to prove your words...please proceed.

edit: I agree with the 8800GT>9600GT statement...just thought you should know.

Listen, I don't care. If you're happy, that's great. I'm not going to argue with you about a meaningless benchmark. I was responding to your numbers by letting you know they're not good. If your argument is they're great, ok, they're great. Enjoy the new system.

Smash, man, I'm not trying to argue I'm actually asking you where you got this info so I can read it up and make my system better.

Of course I enjoy the system. But it's not the point - I want all the juice I can get from this stuff, believe me.

I take back what I said, I didn't do much research - all I know so far is that my performance increased five fold - care to help me get it to 6/7 fold? :D

I actually read today that someone with a more or less overclocked Q6600 got nearly 18/19000 in 3D Mark...now to find out which card he was using o.O

Anyhow

Thanks,
Eric.

That's awful. Did you not SLI them properly?

I exceed all benchmarks I've found so far.

Before saying stuff you are unsure about you might want to do a little research, eh?

You got me though - I should have read you sig sooner. :>

We see roughly 9800 points in 3DMark06. It really is a nice score.

Hi. You understand that this is the score for one stock card. Right?

Not SLI'd factory overclocked cards? Right?

Whatever, kid. If you're happy with it, that's great. You're not running a system building company or something. All that matters is you feel you got value from it.

I'd get it to run substantially faster, because that's how I approach things. The real world diffrence in most games likely wouldn't even be discernible at most resolutions, so great. Go play games, have a good time.

Where do you find averages for builds? My dual 8600 GTS's in SLI scored nearly 13,000, which doesn't mean much to me since every game I have can be played at max settings and that's all I was shooting for. Was wondering if that was the average for that GPU, seems so, as I didn't want to spring the extra couple hundred for 8800's.

One thing I did notice was that the framerates for the CPU test blew, I was getting 1-3 fps. I have an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300, no over clocking or anything.

This is pretty much you in a nutshell, eh Smash?

Wint,

Try looking for websites like Tom's hardware for a benchmark with your CPU and GPUs. Google this: "Q9300 8600 GTS SLI benchmark".

Hope this helps

edit: Oh! and don't worry about the CPU tests we all do as much, lol.
