my laptop screen is currently turning red in most areas (and it floods the black areas, except for some reason this text that i'm typing right now is not red), it can't be the pixels because it depends on the image where the red is, it was blinking red like this whenever pressure was applied to the laptop but i'm not sure what this is, it's gone permanent.

Have you tried to re-calibrate your screen? Usually LCD monitors will have a calibration tool either built into the computer suite or if an external monitor it will usually come with one.

I have a feeling it could be more serious if it's unable to retain picture information the way I am thinking.

I don't think you have a damaged lcd, but you may well have a damaged cable between your graphics chip and the lcd, or a damaged connector. They're extremely flimsy and damage can create an effect similar to that seen on CRT monitors when the plug pins or cable is damaged.

Your mention of it 'blinking' when pressure was applied pretty much seals it as damage at or near the graphics chip if you're applying pressure to the unit rather than the screen.
