Nevermind! Sorry for those who clicked on this with the intent of helping, but I ended up fixing it myself. All I did was shut down the comp, turn off the main power switch in the back, unplug and replug all the cords, and it works fine now.

I'll leave it up, however, for those of you who may need a good laugh at my expense.

I searched the last 10 pages to see if anyone else had this problem, but I couldn't find a thread related, so...

Alright, so before we begin, I'm an idiot. Now that we have that covered let me explain my problem.

I just bought a new pair of head phones and was trying to plug them into the back of my computer. In order to do so I had to pull the tower slightly out of it's little tower compartment in my desk. Everything was going smoothly, the headphones were plugged in and the sound was working fine, until I started to slide the computer back into it's compartment.

Apparently I had slid it in a little too far and it had bumped the back of the desk and as soon as this happened my monitor screen went black and I began to hear a voice through the headphones saying "System failed. CPU test" over and over again, like a broken record.

It's not like I jammed the tower back in place, I had just slid it in as normal when I usually have to fiddle with USB ports and other stuff and it had just bumped the back of the desk.

Anyways, I tried restarting and when the 'Windows XP' screen came up there was a bunch of red lines across the screen. The entire desk top is blue, but most everything seems to be running fine.

Anyways, is this fixable by a computer illiterate such as myself? Am I screwed? Do I need to take my computer in for repairs? If so, what for?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

your computer has an Asus motherboard. It has that audible message which is useful for troubleshooting. I'm glad it fixed itself, but you may want to open the case and take a look and see if the heat sync is still attached properly. it could be loose on one of the posts, which would also generate that message if it was pulling away from the heat sync.
