FFXI install troubles EDIT: IT WORKS!!!Follow

#1 Sep 03 2006 at 3:29 PM Rating: Decent
My comp can run FFXI because I have played it before just to let you know

I recently bought the Collection DVD. Installed playonline with no problems. Purchased my Content ID. THEN when I press play the FFXI install starts up THEN stops because it cant find the install program SO I click the browse button to locate the file WHICH IS ON THE DVD!!!!!!
For some reason it wont read the file. My DVD does have a scartch or two on the rim. Is that the reason why it wont read the file??

I read the post with the tech support suggestions...The part about copying the files to my harddrive then installing it that way. Will I have to do that with the expansions as well?? also if I do that with the first INSTALL folder will I still need the DVD??

When I try to Install FFXI through the dvd it stops at a .DAT file then asks me to insert the collection DVD which is already in the computer.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated. I'm at my wits end here. Each day that I am not playing is another day wasted on my free trial. please help me

------------------------------------------

IT WORKS!!!!! IT FINALLY WORKS!!!!! AFTER 4 DAYS OF ERRORS AND INSTALLS AND REINSTALLS IT FINALLY WORKS.

Unfortunately I have to hold my excitement for another day so my friend can get me a gold world pass. Believe me I tried calling him at this hour but his phone is off. Well at least the game works. Now I can relax.

I want to thank the people that replied to my posts with advice. I'll be joining the ranks of Galka on the Fenrir server tomorrow....well in a few hours. Hope to see everyone there. Thank you and goodnight

Umm.. are you asking if you need to install the expansions to play?

Yes, you do. Just make sure to install them in order. (FFXI->Zilart->CoP->Urhgan)

You also need to register them in PlayOnline with the included registration codes. (else installing them does nothing but put the files on your HD)

If all else fails, you can download the CDs from a torrent site. Just remember that they are useless without the codes! DO NOT lose those!

yes I realize that i have to install the expansions as well. What I meant was do i have to copy the install folder to the harddrive everytime??

I'm still having EXTREME trouble installing the game itself. Are the registration servers still down?? I've gotten as far as downloading/installing the version update for the game but right after that I get a black screen and nothing else............ I almost want to quit trying to play this game. I dont know what to do or what I"m doing wrong. Hopefully a call to tech support tomorrow will help clear things up

edit: Today I took a different route. On another forum someone told me that I might still have old FFXI data in the registry from when I played the game 3 years ago. I thought since I uninstalled the game back then that all the files were gone. To this day in my Programs list FFXI and Rise of Zilart still pop up. So a while ago I uninstalled what I had so far, then proceeded to delete all playonline files.

Now I have reinstalled the viewer, completely updated then clicked on the play button for the game NOW I get a message telling me -->Selected Feature not found. Playonline-compatible software must be installed! What do I do now. I dont know what file its talking about...... Am I just sh*t out of luck here??

Sound like you didn't install the game, just the POL viewer
