My connection is intermittent. It's fine at startup, but fails to find the network in as little as 20 minutes and as late as 4 hours. WinXP Pro is fully updated. Signal strength is excellent or very good at all times. I used the same adapter on an older computer in the same location (running WinXP Home) and had no problems. IEEE 802.1X network access control is disabled. I've read that this problem can be due to conflicts with Wireless Zero, but disabling that makes it so I cannot connect at all. Also, when I lose my connection I can regain it by simply unplugging and plugging back in the USB adapter.
If anyone can give me instructions on what to do to resolve this major pain, it would be MUCH appreciated. Otherwise, give me a recommendation on a good adapter you know works for gaming (FFXI in my case).

Are you running the usb connection directly to the port, or through a hub? if it is on a hub, move it directly to the port.
If it is directly attached to the port, how many other usb devices, including hubs, do you currently have plugged in. Is your motherboard USB 2.0 compliant (intel 865 or higher and equivelent)
the PCI card adaptors are generally a bit more stable than the usb ones in my experiance, mostly because of all the devices sharing the data link with the usb device.

Went out last night and got a new PCI wireless-g adapter. Plugged it in, no connection issues, and got signals from two neighbors' houses in addition to an excellent connection to my own router.
