I'm looking at upgrading my video card to one of the latest ATI cards specifically geared towards gamers. Has anyone had any success with the x800 line of cards? I noticed that it is not listed on the SOE approved cards list.

i have this card .. the GFX on some games is great :)
i do not see much of an improvement except for slighty higher FPS in FFXI

my bench mark on the Gf 4 ti 4200 was 3050 with the x800 its now 4200 :)

the only problem i have with this card is FFXI and only FFXI crashes with it on ocasions.. its completely random.. the game will freeze.. and then 5 minutes later i closes and i get this message

http://www.btinternet.com/~karl.mitchell2/bs.jpg

when i go to look at my GFX settings to restore the colour it wont let me at them.. computer needs to be restarted :S

I did notice that ATI is planning the x600 series cards (and perhaps another line after that) that will utilize the new PCI Express architecture. This bus will replace the AGP 8x bus and allow for full duplex sending, hence the bus speed is at minimum 16x. I'd have to replace my motherboard with a 925 chipset, but I can alway put the spare board in a 2-boxed machine.

I guess waiting and see how the technology develops may not be a bad idea

I have this card, it's great. I run FFXI at the highest possible settings, even changing the registry manually to get the background resolution to 2048x2048 (which is an enormous quality improvement). It runs superbly, the only thing I notice is that at the Select Character screen there is a white border around edge of the monitor. Other than it's beautiful, and performance is fantastic. I clocked 6217 or something on Vanadiel Bench.

Only 4000? I was expecting something like close to 8000 or something.
A few months ago , some guy got 7000+ on High resolution with a Radeon 9800 XT. You really need to upgrade your Processor and RAM, or even your motherboard.

There is the latest DDR 2 566mhz ram piece available in the market, check it out. Thats a waste of a good graphic card dude..
