FFXI Update Error, please help.Follow

#1 Jul 07 2004 at 1:43 AM Rating: Decent
Hi guys, ever since i logged on 6 hrs ago, ive been trying to update ffxi. Until now ive just assumed that it was because the server was overloaded with people trying to download the patch. But, now i have my doubts, a couple of friends have been able to download it after little effort.
But ive been constantly at it for 6hrs, not constantly pressing retry, but every 10 minutes or so coming back to the computer for a few minutes and trying unsuccessfully to download the patch. For an hr a little while ago i was at it constantly....
It keeps saying
ERROR CODE: POL-1162
Network problems have occured, please try again.

I usually dont get past the downloading the latest versions information. But every now and again i get past the next screen and get to anywhere between 5 and 40% of the patch downloaded.

Other patches have been like this, sure, but they werent as small as this patch is, and didnt last 6hrs without being able to download!
Is anyone else not able to patch sucessfully? is it just me? or is this just normal and i should wait a day or so? :(

Im on PC btw.

UPDATE: Seeing as that code means something to do with the router, ive tried seeing if there was any router software updates, but there hasnt been for two years. Ive reset the router, ive reset the cable modem, nothings changed....
Router is a D-Link DI-804.

I, unfortunately cant do that, im on a home LAN running the cable modem and router from that. Modem and router are in a different room, and would cause a huge disruption to my dads work and stuff if i took it down. Not to mention it was a real pain in the **** to setup the 1st time, i wouldnt want to have to do it all again if something went wrong! haha

I'm having the same problem. If it doesn't download tonight I'm going to mail SE and see what's up. I'm also on a router, linksys, but I doubt that's the issue...any ideas?

nope, no changes whatsoever..
i logged last night at 2am, turned computer off, got up this morning ready to update, and it didnt work, hasnt worked now for the past 7hrs...

and no, i doubt it. besides the fact id rather not wait that long! a friend was waiting on me to lvl with him! id probably be out saturday night, and it would cause too much hassle to change all the stuff, needless to say its very complex, and im not the most computer literate person.

It just pisses me off, why does Square have to go mucking around with things... cant they stick to the saying, if it aint broke, dont fix it!

haha, thanks
i just tried for the 3 billionth time and it managed to get to 60% downloaded! which makes me think the error its coming up with is an error in itself... im not sure it has anything to do with the router, because every now and again it goes fine, it just doesnt get the whole way..... :(

60% download? Not bad. I'm still sitting on the preparing screen at 75% for nearly two hours ><

I know it's not a virus since I'm on the PS2 and the ONLY stuff I download comes from SE. What angers me is that others got through the download in thirty seconds. Have you already mailed or called Square about it?

no, i havent as yet, ill have to email them as im not in the US or japan so cant call them. Ill give it a few more hours, just incase its to do with server overload, or square knows its happening and is fixing it, and then ill shoot em a mail.

I'm doing the same. As soon as my download fails (give or take another two hours...) I'm going to bed. In the morning if it's not fixed I'll tip them, and let them know that I'm not the only one with the issue. Hopefully this isn't evil router stuff as I'm not into computer hardware things myself and I don't want to purchase a new router. Keep us (me, heh) updated. :)

1162 is more common though.

btw, i sent square an email, well see what they say, i hope its not an automated response....

New error messages after trying again this morning:

POL 0010
1161

All "network is busy or connection" problems but I'm able to get online. As usual the automated response had nothing to do with my reason for mailing them :) Any ideas what's wrong?
