Strange oddity with PlayOnlineFollow

I thought I'd try here before contacting PlayOnline's tech support on this strange oddity.

When I installed the PlayOnline stuff, and ran the PlayOnline application for the first time a opening video played. The second time I ran the PlayOnline application, the opening video played. All subsequent times I run the PlayOnline software, the opening video doesn't play and it takes me directly to the login screen.

Anyone here know how to get the opening video to play?

Thanks in advance!

It does that by design, i think there is a setting in playonline to change that, but I do not know where off the top of my head.

Open up your POL config and make sure the option for Play Opening Movie is checked. That's how it is on PC, not sure how it is on PS2.

The only options I have in the POL Config program are:

Enable Sound
Run in Windowed Mode
Use Gamepad

I didn't see an option to play opening movie, and couldn't find it in the settings inside the POL viewer either.

Same here. I usually play on a PS2, which gets a static "Playonline" logo while the "yodeling guy" music plays. Friend gave me a PC copy to play since he stopped playing, and the first time it ran it played the "yodeling guy" music with the various images flying. It hasn't done it since (music or video, just a quick splash screen then straight to viewer), and I don't see any setting in the config programs to change it. It'd be cool if there was a way/option to play it again, I thought it was rather neat. ^^;

it can be also from FFXI config, "Misc." section.

Nah, tried that, that just toggles the FFXI Opening Movie of Coolness(tm). Doesn't do anything for the PlayOnline movie.

Was bored, did a registry search, and found only one obvious key that would be related to the opening viewer movie, it was in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> PlayOnlineUS -> SquareEnix -> PlayOnlineViewer -> Settings, and was the PlayOpeningMovie key. It appears to be a 0/1 setting, currently in 1 (True), toggled it, no effect. One level up, there's also a FirstBootPlayMovie key, currently set to 0. Toggled it, didn't appear to have an effect as well.

Maybe this is a new viewer bug? Something that got fubar'd from the last patch (especially since, as Haggan mentioned, there used to be a toggle setting in the POL config program that appears to have been removed). I guess few would notice it since most people probably turn both movie options off. But I wanted to see the viewer movie again. *pout* ^^

Out of boredom, did a search on IGN's forums, and found a thread on this topic. Apparently people started having this problem in mid-June. I know it's a very minor thing in the scheme of things, but I hope this gets looked into, I actually liked that opening PlayOnline movie. :)

I just thought I'd give everyone a follow-up with this (does anyone really care?). ^^;;

After several e-mails back and forth with Square Tech Support and some auto-responder stuff ("Here's how to view the movie again..." "Er, no, that's the FF Movie, not the Viewer Movie." "Here's how to view the movie again..." "Um no, see last e-mail." "Here's how..." ><), I finally got a response on the opening Playonline Viewer Movie.

Thank you for contacting the PlayOnline Information Center.

That function is no longer available.

Suggestions from our customers are always valued. While we cannot guarantee implementation we will surely pass this on to the developers. There is also a direct email to send to the development team, using the PlayOnline Viewer, Service and Support, Comments and Suggestions option.

If any further information becomes available about this function, you will be able to find that information at www.playonline.com .

So it looks like they took the movie out (or at least the ability to view it) during an update on purpose. Which is a shame, I kind of liked that little movie. I replied back saying this, and kindly requesting that they at least re-allow the option to turn it on and off in the config. If you miss it too, feel free to follow the instructions given to me to tell them.
