have you checked for viruses? housecall.trendmicro.com

Also, can you please post your system specifications? How many fans do you currently have in your case?

Heat is possible, but i wouldn't regard it as being likely. Its probably either a software issue, or possibly an older graphics card having issues, but I need more information.

You have ffxi on a very small partition, but it should be big enough to run even with the swap file, unless your windows swap file is also set to generate on F:\? Might want to try merging two of the smaller partitions into a larger one, see if that gives you more swap file area to play with. Other than that, your hardware specifications look good, graphics card isn't top of the line, but it's not that old either, you have plenty of ram and processor speed. 2 fans should be adequate for that setup. I don't know of anything major that was changed with that patch. Nothing that should be causing you to crash. Have you installed the registry display hack for ffxi to get a higher resolution? I think thney changed somethign related to that but I am not sure.

Your graphics driver is from march, is there a newer one out? I don't follow the ati drivers as well as I do the nvidia ones.

Did housecall come up negative?

If the video driver checks out, it's probably the tiny partitions or a virus. It could possibly be an IRQ conflivt if you installed anything recently. check and see if your video card is sharing an IRQ with your sound or network card.

Did you run housecall.trendmicro.com? even if you have an onboard virus scanner, there is a chance it was corrupted and is not reporting correctly.

I notice you are running norton internet security. if you disable the firewall there are you able to get online and stay in FFXI? if so, the rule in internet security may be corrupted, or the patch changed enough softwarte settings it is trying to gather new setting data and locking things up? it's a possibility.
