BSOD/CrashFollow

#1 May 15 2004 at 10:19 PM Rating: Decent
I have a P4 1.6 Gateway E-3600, 1G of RAM, GeForce 5200 Ultra 128, Win XP, 1539 MB avail on HD and Direct X 9.0b. As of today I cannot stay logged in longer than 5 seconds. Playonline loads and works fine, once in game I get a BSOD and the computer reboots immediatly. There is no time to read the BSOD error message. The computer works fine in all other applications, including other games and the internet.

This phenomen started in Kazahm and I was able to relog and play fine. It happened again and again I could relog and play. Once I left via airship to Juneau and headed towards the stairs to upper junea etc I crashed hard again as described above. Since then I cannot stay in game.

Check your files! When you open POL, there should be an option to check all your files. I'd do that first. If all of them check out, here's a few suggestions:

1. Open up your System Properties (easily done by pressing the windows key and the Pause Break key at the same time)

2. Verify that the amount of RAM shown is the amount of RAM you have installed in your computer. If it is fine, if not, your problem is most likely a faulty memory stick.

3. While you're in there, click the Hardware tab, and open up Device Manager. See if there are any question marks or red X's next to anything. If there is, it's time to find drivers most likely.

4. Run a virus scan. Trend Micro is your friend.

5. If none of the above help, copy down everything the BSOD displays and post it here.

Good luck ^^

Did all mentioned above, no problems. Checked event viewer and found this:

"Rebooted from a bugcheck 0x00000024 (0x001902fa, 0xf35ede7c, 0xf35eob7c, oxf744c7b8)"

That bugcheck error is usually caused by either overheating, or an DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error. Is your video card sharing an IRQ with thesound or network card? also, have you tried updating you video card drivers?

For heat, how many case fans do you have in our computer case? are they all still functional? Also, blow any dust bunnies out of the case too.

I have the latest Video driver for my card. My NIC is on IRQ20, Video IRQ16 and Sound is on IRQ23. I disabled auto shutdown to see what the fails were on the BSOD and they are; 0x00000024 (0x001902fa, 0xf475139c, 0xf475109c, 0xf744c7b8. I ran a CHKDSK /F and it repaired a corrupt attribute record (128,..) File segment 61258, truncating badly linked attribute record from file segment 74198.

I tried again to run the game and did not get a BSOD but I was immediately kicked to desktop. I'm going to remove and reinstall the game. This does not happen in EQ, SWG or any other game or application I play/run.

Have you checked the Application or System EventLogs? Post the Event ID's for the errors back here and maybe I can help you further.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, let me know and I'll provide more detail.

EDIT: I just thought of something, if nothing else works, go into your BIOS and restore all defaults. If that still doesn't work, turn off all memory shadowing.

Scroll up, I did post the log. No matter I deleted the game, and tried to reinstall and got an error on disk 3 about access to a file. Needless to say I have deleted all game files and cancelled my account to FFXI and deleted playonline as well. Thanks for the fun but it's back to EQ for me, my guild will be happy. :)

Sorry to hear that. But I'd just like to point out that there is probably something wrong with your machine. FFXI runs well on almost all the other computers. Enjoy EQ, but I'd check into these errors ASAP.
Good luck!

FFXI did run well on my machine until yesterday. EQ, SWG, DAoC, and everything else still run on my machine with no problems. If I had a bigger problem I would think it would manifest itself on all applications. Until then I'll play the old 'if it ain't broke...' :)
