===================================

I been running the game fine for a week using this new pc, having no problem at all.

Last night while i was playing and then when i changed map, the monitor wll give a black screen only(instead of the black screen with "downloading maps" at bottom right), Game music is heard too. After around a minute the game will give an error said "Connection to Server lost". Attempt to relogin will have an message that "your character is already connected, please try again a few minutes later"

I was thinking an connection problem and tried restarting modem and router, pc too. Internet connection seems to be perfectly alright. Also tried restore my graphic card core and memory, disable AA and AF, no luck. Did a virus scan with no virus found. Swapping to a PCI lan card didnt work too.

I am kinda out of idea because the game will run "perfectly" ok if i didnt change map, i am able to chat with my LS, buy/sell at AH, etc. But once i changed map, the problem will occur.

Please help, thank you.

Try taking zone alarm down, then try playing and change the map. Changin the map probably requsts data on a port you don't use during normal game play, so your firewall may be interfereing. if that's not it, let me know.

Thanks for the reply Kao.

Sorry.. forgot to mention i was having Internet connection firewall up while i started to have the problem.

Tried to turn it off but didn't work too... Zone alarm was installed after that.

Sorry for the confusion.

Another thing to mention is i am using a wireless router but connected on fast ethernet.

Have not tried on doing a direct modem connection though... it really kind of weird that the problem just came suddenly :/

Depending on the version of ZA that you're running, it could spontaneously lock up. I had that issue with mine a few months ago. The only way to get it working properly again was to just remove it and re-install it.

The basic way to troubleshoot this is to connect directly to the modem and remove/disable all firewalls. If problem is solved, add the removed components in one by one until the problem surfaces again. Then you know what is causing the problem.

If the problem persists after connecting directly to the modem, chances are it's a problem with the FFXI installation. Back up the macros and re-install it. You mentioned all other internet apps work properly, so it would make sense that the problem is the game itself.

Yup, direct connection is the thing i should try but i didn't, guess i will have to try that later... in 2 hours time =p

It is just kind of weird because i was running the game with Zone alarm not installed, run fine for a couple of hours, i am pretty sure i did changed map during this period with no problem. Suddenly i received a black screen when i changed map and then it wont go off me ><

Ok tried on direct connection, same problem, then I tried turn off Zone Alarm, removed ICF, reinstalled both ethernet card and reset tcp/ip stack, but is still same problem. >.<

Giving up on trying, i uninstalled playonline viewer and FFXi and reinstall all over again, patched and go... ouch same problem!

Ok... reinstalled winxp, did all windows update, checked wireless router with latest firmware(original firmware when i purchased it, which was working fine till..), reinstall POL and FFXI again, patched again. Guess what? I am still having the same problem.

I am complelety run out of any clues, please help me >.<

By the way the error code is "4001" and it only happens when map changing.
