#1 May 02 2004 at 1:04 AM Rating: Good
This is a copy of an e-mail I sent to a colleague to help him with his spyware/virus problems. All of the software involved is free, becasue I am a cheap *******.

This guy started a company in the UK called BSComputers, but he is still learning the basics himself, rather amusing. Oh yea and the guys name is Billy.

Anyway for all people who have any sort of virus/spyware problem.

Hi there Bruce,

Right, I am a very busy man so lets get right to the point. Neil says you are having virus/spyware/rat problems.

First off, most important is to go to Windows update and download damn near everything, especially all security patches.

For a good free vius scanner you can go to the link below. This is not automated you must run it yourself, but it does an excellent job of cleaning viruses.

If you are not a Trend Micro customer please download the following file.

Sysclean Package located here.

http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp

Then download the pattern file located here

lpt***.zip
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/pattern.asp

Use this once a week.

How to Use
1. Create a temporary folder and copy SYSCLEAN.COM into this folder.
NOTE: This temporary folder should be created on a local or mapped drive.
2. Download latest pattern file. Extract the downloaded ZIP pattern
file into the created folder.
3. Close all applications running on your system, including any
antivirus software.
4. Run the executable file, SYSCLEAN.COM, by either:
a. Double-clicking the tool in Windows Explorer.
b. Executing it via command prompt using syntax based on the
aforementioned parameters.
4. Enable any antivirus software that is installed on your system and
perform a manual scan.
NOTE: This fix tool generates the log file, SYSCLEAN.LOG, in its
current folder.

Next get this software and install and run it once a week.

http://home.comcast.net/~bz1usa/spybotsd12.exe

I run these three programs on my computer regularily, I never have any ongoing virus problems.

As for the rats, 12 gauge shotgun!

That is all. Take it easy. BSComputers eh? heh
