#1 Feb 23 2004 at 6:02 PM Rating: Decent
Well Im having the same trouble many of you are having ...only on my second computer..

Atlon 600
512
gforce4 mx420
sounblasterlive

All drivers are up to date..
Dx 9

Client has been crashing now for a week every one min or so...have tryed deleting certain files inculding the one Kao mentioned in another post and these also on recomendation of sony rep..ggl_chr.s3d, Paf_chr.s3d, Pbr_chr.s3d..This was after I did a reinstall of game to make sure..tho oddly when these files repatched it seemed to patch each one a few times...

Still client crash.

Well Im at a loss..only thing that gives me any idea is maybe some ports are being blocked by my cable provider cox that are being used by EQ ..shot in dark here they are
Also I took router off and I am connected directly to cable modem with same results((
These are the ports blocked by cox

Port Transport Protocol Direction Reason for Filtering
25 TCP SMTP Both* SMTP Relays
80 TCP HTTP Inbound Web servers, worms
135 UDP NetBios Both Net Send Spam/Pop-ups, Worms
136-139 UDP, TCP NetBios Both Worms, Network Neighhood
445 TCP MS-DS/ NetBios Both Worms, Network Neighhood
1433 TCP MS-SQL Inbound Worms, Trojans
1434 UDP MS-SQL Inbound Worms, SQLslammer
1900 UDP MS-DS/ NetBios Both Worms, Network Neighhood
27374 TCP Subseven Both SubSeven Trojan

*SMTP is only permitted outbound to Cox-provided SMTP servers

After reading most of the threads on this subject this is the only thing that rings a bell for me atm..and It might be off..Any help or guidance and I would be quite grateful ))

If it is working with one computer and not with the other, It's probably not ports being blocked. With that graphics card it could be that you no longer meet the minimum specs for the G.o.D. expansion graphics upgrade. I don't remember if the 420 has a hardware TnL engine. I know the 440 does.

I'd try significantly tuning down your graphics and turning off the 3d targetting ring and see if that does the trick. Also run a disk defragment. Check and see if the video card and the sound card are sharing an IRQ.

It would be helpful if you could post a copy of your eqdebug.txt file from c:\program files\everquest\ here, that should list the cause of the crash.

Thank you most kindly for the reply..After going back and forth with sony all day yesterday..they finally emailed me after looking at my dbg, eqlog and some other files suggested that it might be a motherboard or memory problem...So I first went to Amd site and installed a AMDDRV pack, a miniport and a eide thingy..Proceeded to log on my warrior on that computer and went over the Redwind in everfrost and let them proceed to cast and atttack me which in the past week has client crashed everytime Ive been around awhole lot of spell effects and beasts within 10seconds sometimes ...I started with everything off...spell effects, targeting ring, sound and slowly turned it on as they attacked me...well no crash for nearly 2hours of running around and trying to ..ummm I guess stresss the computer...I then get my wife on so she can do adventure...all is well thru buffs and running to dungeon in Ldon ..she zones in starts to fight and Client crashes...Hmmm..She logs on my computer to finsih the dungeon and I proceed to get back on hers and try to stress it again...fighting Redwind and his cronies...mainly cause they cast alot of spells...and then go Afk in Everforst camp for like 4hours no crash...Ive read a few posts thru my research and some have replaced there memory and stopped the crashing...any insight into this would be greatly appreciated..

Well after what felt like being in a nightmare...I think I finally figured out our problem..It might help you AMD/nvidia users..Im not saying this will fix your problem but if you have tryed everything and I mean everything...from buying new hardware to reformatting to trying VIA 4-1 drivers and all the other stuff..IRQ conflicts..drivers updat dx9..I mean everything...was just about to give up on this computer when in my hours of research(awhole lot of hours)I ran across a post well a whole bunch of client crashing posts at sony forums...but this one somehow turned out differnt...with blurry eyes of looking at a **** load of dbg files...A fellow and I cant actually remeber where in the tech forums it is now said he tryed rolling back his DRIVERS to 44.03..thats a long way back I thought..Id tryed a couple rollbacks..but not that far..Well I said what the hell at this point it couldnt hurt...I uninstalled the new 53.03 or 54.03 nvidia drivers(cant remeber now still woozy )and reinstalled the 44.03 drivers and Wham..it worked..My wife did 6 adventures today not one Client crash (am I nervous as I say this hell yes hehe) But it seemed to have worked I even did 2adevntures with here one normal and one hard...Knowing if she clients crashs in a hard one we toast..No crash..Well I know that every computer is differnt but for those of you that read this and are up to your limit trying ****...Try this it might make yer day ))
