Hehe, that's ok, most people drop the a for some reason. You should see some of the really creative spellings I've seen over the years. koalan also seems a popular spelling. I have no idea where that comes from.

Your system should have plenty of power to run SWG well. Your ram is a bit lower than I tend to prefer, but still well above the lower limits.

There could be a couple possibilities here. First, let's try the easy things.

Go to housecall.trendmicro.com and run the online virus scanner. At the same time, you may also want to run ad-aware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com

If you find and clean a virus, try getting back in game again and see if things are better. if not, move on to the next step.

Next, try a hard disk defragment.

Check and see if your video cards and sound card (and network card too) are sharing an IRQ.

Are you running SWG under an admin account, or as a power user?

Are you overclocking at all? how many fans do you have in your case? if you take the side panel off, and aim a large box fan at your motherboard, does the issue go away?

Did you at any point before you had the 9700 card installed have an nvidia card in that machine?

Try those, then we'll go from there.

I'm not the resident tech guru, but since I know Kao's in bed cause he works some gawd-awful hours, I will assist somewhat.

IRQ = Interrupt ReQuest

These are where your cards are located. You can find out which IRQ your video card is on by going to Device Manager, however which way you prefer to get there. Go to video adapters and properties. The click resources tab and IRQ should be 4th-ish down. Mine is set to 19 for example. If you have, say your sound card, on the same IRQ, you will get lag, and perhaps errors. You can check the IRQ of your ethernet, sound, any other accessory in the same manner.

I had the same problem and had to set my sound card in a different slot, or you can manually re-set the IRQ. I will let Kao do the major help, like explaining manual change of IRQ -- for one he's a better typer than I am.

I also wanted to let you know that since SWG began the trickle patch before Publish 6, my lag was horrid and is still unstable at times. I also have gone through 3 different nvidia video cards with no luck, I have since given up on nvidia video and gone back to ATI. I now have a decrease in ping by almost 50%.

Good luck! I will check back to see what Kao can do for you.

GAH had to fix hellacious typo

Sorry I haven't got back to this topic in a while.

Since the IRQ thing didn't pan out, it could either be a driver issue, or a heat issue. Try this:

First, restart your computer in safe mode. remove all traces of the nvidia driver if it is still present. Make sure you don't inadvertantly remove the nforce driver.

Then, update the nforce driver and reinstall your ati drivers. restart. Attempt to reinstall directx 9.0b

Power user is not going to cut it for SWG, try running under the admin account and see if that does the trick. If so, you may be able to get by with jsut givnig the SWG folder admin privalages.

Sice your computer is down in a cubby hole, the ehat issue is looking more likely. How many case fans do you have, and when is the last time you blew the dust out of it?

Edit:
Also, empty your temp files and recycle bin, and make sure you don't have any excess programs running in the background.

OK here's a few more things you can check.

Have you checked your CPU and system temps? Sometimes people will use a household oscilating fan on their comps cause they just can't get them cool enough.

What size is your power supply? With that card you should have no less than a 350W at the least.

Make sure when you did your last Microsoft update that they didn't stick MSN messenger on your system to start up when windows does. I have totally removed it from my system since it starts up continuously even after you have shut it off via task manager. It's an annoyance that uses 8k in resources. Go Trillian it's a life saver.

The first thing I thought when I read your problem was RAM, and I'm still sticking with that thought. Even though it is DDR, you should still have more RAM. I run 1.5G of DDR400 and I still have lag occasionally for one reason or another. But I never run just SWG alone. I run anti-virus and firewall at all times plus the game. Sometimes have Trillian and several IE windows open to. So it all depends on what you have on, and what you are wiling to give up to have a lag free system.

Make sure you have every driver known to man updated including your motherboard. And buy more RAM!

Thats a bit on the hot side, but I've seen worse.

Try the fan trick, if it helps, you have a bad video card. If it doesn't help, it's not heat.
